William And Nancy's Parting

Description
This lovely traditional song, which Nic Jones used to sing, has been on my mind for weeks now so I found time this morning to record it for MacJams. Several people have asked me for the guitar tab so I've written it out for anyone who'd like it. (I'll need your email to send the pdfs.) The hard bit is playing a slightly different tune to the one you're singing! Nic tuned his guitar DGDGAD but I play in standard tuning.

The photo is from Sail Training International.

Smooth sailing
Wonderful guitar arrangement & singing. What a winning tune and story. I envy your ability here. You make it sound so easy, Ken. Well done!

You should have seen me this morning, John, trying to get under way! Once I'd managed to play the first three notes successfully it was all right- and my voice covers the occasional dodgy bits! Many thanks!

Ken, this is sweet
Great guitar and nicely styled vocals. You do make it seem easy, but we know it's not.

I like all kinds of music but traditional song is my great pleasure. I met Nic Jones in 1968 when I had been singing in folk clubs for a couple of years. His approach and style of singing and playing as well as his generous personality had an enormous effect on the way I sing and play. This is the first time I've been bold enough to record one of his songs using his arrangement.
Thanks for your encouragement, Roxy!
