brass on pocket To my un-tutored ear the brass sounds ok. It wavers a bit but that's what happens when humans play brass. Gives it life. ( It is humans playing the brass isn't it) In terms of mixing you don't mention what it is you used to get this down in the first place and did you do it live or put the some of the tracks down seperately. I'd maybe bring in a bit more guitar. It doesn't have to be high in the mix,it just helps with the melody. The vox are a wee bit cold and could maybe have a touch or reverb on them but apart from that it's fine. The overall mix is a little bit quiet. If you just have an MP3 of the recording you could drag it into the audacity program and boost the volume levels up a bit. Nice Love the horns! Great vocals (lead and backing). Nice arrangement. The harmony vocals are a tad loud and compete with the lead a bit too much. As others have mentioned also think about bringing up the guitars a touch. Another thing is the bass guitar gets completely lost except for the very beginning. Hope that helps. Hey, glad I found this.... Really interesting music, the backup harmonies and the trumpet sounds are especially impressive.
only two quibbles: (a) the trumpet part around 2:20 or so, overlapping ascending part, sounds un-trumpet-like compared to the way you use it for the rest of the song. ie. that type of line is more idiomatic to a keyboard part than a trumpet section. (b). the vocal sounds a bit dry/loud/"in your face" at times. Regarding how to mix the brass sounds, I would check with fellow MJ'er "Tempie" as he does that really well. I think he explained his process on one of his posts....
I think some reverb, and possibly duplicating the track and panning/effecting them slightly differently can help? and possibly putting one of the duplicated tracks very slightly out of sync with the other? Just thoughts, I don't have particular skill in this area.
the lyrics are great, fit the song perfectly.
overall, I really liked this song and will check out the rest of yr stuff!
