Description
This is a song that has been a long time in the making, it goes back to the mid seventies and I've been carrying it around in my head ever since. It's pitched too low for my voice really but when it was taken up the harmonies were then too high so I had to compromise a little here and there.

Lyrics:

Seems like a million years. Written by JJ

Looking up at the sky,
we’ve been here for days and can’t make a move,
Friends that lay in shallow graves, are gone.

Caught inside a ring of fire,
Everyone feels the fear that steals,
Trying hard to wear us down, each day.

And help is on it’s way, hold out one more day.

Seems like a million years,
I’ve shed a million tears,
Feels like a million tears ‘til tomorrow.

Snipers keep their profiles low,
Always concealed, never revealed,
Allies push their bluff once more, to show.

Axis forces still in town,
Germany’s day is slipping away,
Caught inside the tides of war, we roll.

And help is on it’s way, hold out one more day.

Seems like a million years,
I’ve shed a million tears,
Feels like a million tears ‘til tomorrow.

Hello Feter
this song more than any I've ever written is like an old friend and this is the first ever attempt to record it properly. I'm glad you liked it. Thank you for your kind words. Jape.

That's a long time
Those mussta been some tight pants John.
Processional passing, the piano made this move, and added some sparkle. Bass playing worked just right, economical arrangement.
Great job!

tight pants indeed
wish I had more range. I love harmonies but they are often my downfall. Thank you for listening and taking time to comment.

Charming melody, this. Love the high/low vocal arrangement. I dig the harmonium/organ part. Is this about Dunkirk?

John - thanks
the song has a couple of influences, - the first is a film I saw called -Long day's dying - which is the story of a small group of British Paras who were dropped behind German lines in WW2, - the second is The Band's wonderful song The night they drove old Dixie down, which had then not long been released. Although very different in many ways I think I saw this as a sort of European version of Dixie. I re-wrote a tiny bit of my song in August this year but 95 per cent of it's original writing remains intact. The Dunkirk angle
for this I think, would have been even more fitting than my own.

way unique!
harmonica(?)/piano/bass make a swell sound.
the big wall of harmonious voices creates an interesting contrast to the story's heaviness.
it's pretty wonderful!
