Description
This is my most recent composition. I wrote most of the lyrics on a ferry from Vancouver Island to the Mainland. It's a song written as a tribute to a very old, and dear friend who lost her final battle to a disease which I promised her I would never mention by name. He battle was valiant, but alas, she lost the war.

Rest well, My Redneck Princess. We shall meet again.

Whew!

Anyway, this is my first draft of this tune. Any and all comments are MOST welcome! (Yes, I know it's a tad long at 4:15 and the vocals need a little more gain.)

Ciao!

Redneck Princess
© 2009 GJWField BHM Productions

She’s got a backwoods elegance,
A Social Intelligence,
She shakes, and struts, and shimmies, on the floor.

When she starts her body workin’
Those poor old boys start flirtin’
The just can stop, coming back for more.

With effervescent laughter,
She knows what they’re after,
Boys will be boys, after all.

‘Cause she’s a Redneck Princess,
A brown-eyed blonde who fishes,
She smiles and quickly cuts me from the herd.

GUITAR BRIDGE

She’s got a backwoods elegance,
A Social Intelligence,
She shakes, and struts, and shimmies, on the floor.

When she starts her Mojo workin’
Those poor old boys start hurtin’
The just can stop, coming back for more.

With effervescent laughter,
She knows what they’re after,
Boys will be boys, after all.

‘Cause she’s a Redneck Princess,
A brown-eyed blonde who fishes,
She smiles and quickly cuts me from the herd.

Here we go!

‘Cause she’s a Redneck Princess,
A brown-eyed blonde who fishes,
She smiles and quickly cuts me from the herd.

‘Cause she’s a Redneck Princess,
A brown-eyed blonde who fishes,
She smiles and quickly cuts me from the herd.

Wow! Thanks. I actually wrote the song acapella on the ferry with my iPhone. Slightly different melody and lyrics and the vocal variation only came later. Then yeah, I was playing with a couple of loops, came up with the basic rhythym, Structured it to fit what I had and there you have it! Bones! I have a few musical friends, but I find loops to be a great substitute when you're bashing things around. Not as dynamic as real-time stuff, but it gives the bones to put a little more flesh on.

Thanks again!

Beautiful
guitar work here, did you record yourself on accoustic and then repeat the loops,or is it just a stock loop? because if thats you,it's mic'd very well! Good sound. Vox need some more punch maybe, but nice job! Thanks for sharing!

Guitar Work/Vox
Hi Nick,
Thanks for the comments! The guitar work is actually a loop (but I can play it now!) As for the vox, yeah, the levels were too low against the backing tracks so they are kinda weak. However, I thought they also sounded kinda just "under the surface", kinda adding a bit of melancholy. Plans are to rerecord them as soon as my voice recovers from the last time!

Thanks again!

Passionate
This is touching enough despite the relatively more upbeat pace. Very good draft with clean mix & delivery. I'm sure she'll be happy with this dedication. Cheers / Mike

Touching & Upbeat
Hi Mike, Thanks for the view and comments! Yeah, I thought it had the right amount of contradiction (sorrowful, yet upbeat tempo) to epitomize the subject matter. I'm sure she's just a singin and a dancin away!

When you record the guitar, I would make it a tad less busy than the garageband loop is. If you keep these drums, I would definitely put more variation in there and also tweak the sound a bit. Try different EQ settings and mess with some matrix reverb (dont use the slider reverb in gb, it is horrible). I think this beat is MIDI so you can even try different drum sets as well. I agree with you that the vox are low in the mix. I also would have a less busy bass line in there (loops are tough to fit, maybe modify a midi bass loop?. I would also write a second verse... maybe go into a specific experience the two of you had with some emotional significance. Anyway. That is about all I can think of. This song definitely has potential. Enjoyed it. Thanks for posting!!

Suggestions
Thanks for the awesome feedback criss. Inspiring! Some new ideas and some confirmation of some of my own thoughts, especially a second verse.

Day one on MJ has been way cool!

Thanks!

Greetings! While I've been plucking away for a few decades, I've only recently begun to approach songwriting and (thanks to technology!) production and recording. I found this site while looking for loops and spent some time checking out the variou... [see more]
