Description
Looking through my old Reel to reels, I’d thought I’d found everything of use to me and also that I’d only written one song previous to arriving here at MJ (There’s no Tomorrow).
As I came to the end of those tapes I heard what remained of another song I’d once worked on and it was in a terrible state since it was literally at the very end of the tape and all creased through constant use. I could hardly hear parts of it and the background hiss, crackles and hum literally covered over a lot of the song. I had originally used a Hammond Rhtythm Unit and I tried to make a ‘loop’ from what was on the tape, but it was too distorted and parts of the lyrics were indiscernible.
I liked the song, though it was typical of the time (early 70’s) so I got as close as I could to the sound of the beat in the original by using GB drum loops and the vocoder setting on the bongos. I filled in lyrics where there were some missing and the result is this song, which I’ve been working on. It’s turned out to be Latin as opposed to the original ‘POP’ song, probably due to the Spanish midi guitar and the bongos I’ve added. Hope you like it; though it is a retro sound…. despite my still persistent ‘croaky’ vocal.

Lyrics
Two of a Kind

Although we know it, we never show it, ‘cause we’re two of kind
We love each other, there’ll be no other, ‘cause we’re two of a kind
Can you visualise, looking into someone else’s eyes?
I think that we are much too wise,
To throw away this lovely thing, that seems to make each day like spring,

This is our secret, so let us keep it, ‘cause we’re two of a kind,
Your hand in my hand, walkin’ in Loveland, yes we’re two of a kind,
We both realize, what’s the cause of all our sighs,
I think we’re oh, so very wise,
To see each day’s a new surprise, and know there’ll never be “good-bye”,

Instrumental
Can you visualize, looking into someone else’s eyes?
I think that we are much too wise,
To throw away this lovely thing, that seems to make each day like spring.

Like me, you know it, we never show it, ‘cause we’re two of a kind,
We love each other, there’ll be no other, ‘cause we’re two of a kind,
As we go through life, I’m your man and you’re my wife,
Cause we’re two of a kind.
Yes we’re two of a kind, yes we’re two of a kind, yes we’re …. two of a kind.

Thanks
Scott for listening to this and for the kind words. I just wish what comes out of me was as modern and progressive as the stuff you do, but then again, we're from different eras and I think these things are sometimes 'built in', though I do try to update LOL, regards M

Beautiful song Maurice
and you didi a great job of bringing it back from the dead. The vocal sounds seamless, which is great considering you patched up a nearly 40 year old vocal with the missing words.

Great song Maurice, and it came out fantastic, even if it is a Latin song now, instead of Pop.

Well Ed
It wasn't quite 'dead', but it was badly bashed LOL, but I managed to resuscitate it and patch it up I think. Thanks a lot for listening and the nice comment, cheers M

Ha Ha
VW I'm just so surprised that you have the time to sit and sip, as prolific in your music writing as you are, but I'm very pleased that you found the time to listen to this and to write those kind words that give the impression I helped you relax in some small way, all the best M

Croaky vocal...
Maurice, that's part of your absolute CHARM. Just beautiful and there's no need to apologize.

"Girl From Ipanema" comes to mind (though you're no Claudine Longet! lol). Your arrangement is just perfect for this number. You've nailed the style and created a beautiful song that isn't just 70's, but that lives always as a testament of love. I am so enjoying each of these "old" songs.
Peace.

Well Paul,
it seems that I'm pretty well stuck with this aggravating 'croak', that's attached itself to me this past few months; seems I'm stuck with it for the time being at least.
Really pleased that you like this song and my performance Paul. Praise from one of the best can't be bad can it? I loved that song, 'Girl from Ipanema' and I did sing it in my younger days, but there was I guy whose name escapes me, who I preferred singing it at the time. Thanks again Paul, much appreciated, M

Croak on my brother!
Voice sounds great to me man. Yes, this has a nice "retro" sound. Easy on the ears, but a toe-tapper nonetheless.

Enjoyed!

Be well!
