Description
I wrote this song back in 08 and i could just never get it right. i posted a crap version last year and since then i've revisited it now and again but was always frustrated by it. Until over the weekend I had a spare 10 minutes and I by chance opened it up and for whatever reason it came together. I like this song so much and to have it done to the point where i can listen to it in my truck and sing along and like it is like christmas and my birthday in one.

Lyrics
2 o'clock in the morning
in the kitchen drinking coffee
waiting for the phone to ring
for your key to turn in the lock
i called up your sister
to ask her had she seen you
she said did i know the time
and i'm not my sister's keeper
why you gotta be the kind of girl that's cutting those eyes the minute she arrives?
why you gotta be the kind of girl that says that she's tired and he offered you a ride so?
why you gotta be the kind of girl that walks to his truck with her shoes in her hand and
why do I gotta be the guy sitting at the bar wondering where you are?
i'd call up your momma
if i could stand to talk to her
instead i'll light a cigarette
and think of ways to say goodbye
i'll fall asleep watching sports zone
i won't hear you come home
when I wake up you'll be asleep by my side
chorus
all those italian girls in their brother's hot cars in high school, i should have taken up with one of them instead of you
in the kitchen drinking coffee

i called up your sister

I'll have to take a little more time to make an official decision. I like the even more laid back vocal in the verses, but I miss the punch the chorus provided. It's a hell of a song any way you slice it, though. Didn't Paddy take a crack at this, too? I've always admired the reality of your lyrics. The line "She said did I know the time and I'm not my sister's keeper" Is so subtle but so vivid.
