Haven't heard this in a while
and I really like your version, Ken. Hmm.. it got cut off at the end, at least on my computer...

Blackbird singing at the end
shame Roxy missed that part. This is my first listen to your stuff, nice guitar- never could get my left & right hands independent enough to do fingerstyle (though I have a pretty good rendition of stairway!) Are you double (triple?) tracking your vocals? Nice stuff - do I hear a little New Christy Minstrels influence there?

Many thanks for your comments Guido. I recorded lead voice and guitar together and added a harmony. I haven't heard the New Christy Minstrels since 1964 so no influence from there! I freely admit to enjoying the Everley's though! Glad you like the fingerpicking!

Nice and warm
sounds from the guitar for this once very familiar song. The vocals take me back many years to when a family of brothers who lived nearby, used to sit around the doorstep on summer evenings, singing in harmony, regards M

How lovely to have neighbours who sang in harmony. It sounds like a dream! I once apologised to a neighbour for disturbing her Sunday afternoon with some friends singing and playing in our back garden. She told me it had been a treat to hear us and would welcome some more of the same one day!
Thanks for the reminiscence, M.

For some reason I disliked Bye Bye Blackbird as a child and the antipathy continued into adulthood. Yesterday morning it was on my mind and I discovered it was surprisingly good to play and sing so I recorded it. Some things take a while to be appreciated! Many thanks for writing, Len.

nice version
I'm late but I hope never too late to say I like very much this version, vocals and guitar playing, nice picking. Among others versions, the one who comes to me which I keep in memory was interpreted by Ringo Star. Thanks...

You're not late, Marc, and you're always welcome! I didn't realise Ringo had recorded the song. I'll have to seek out a copy and listen! Many thanks for your kind words.

Very nice indeeed
I'm looking for a new acoustic and hearing your Martin has alerted me to this model. It sounds great though a large part of that will be from your playing technique and recording. A lovely rendition of the song anyway. I like how the duck gate crashes things at the end. I was reasonably expecting a Beatles (Blackbird on the White Album) type of sound effect so the duck was fun!
Cheers

Many thanks for your words, Steve, I really appreciate it. My OM-21 Special is on eBay this week. It sounds identical to my 000-28VS but has a 1-3/4" nut and is much cheaper! I've played it on MacJams, if I remember rightly.
I often write out the guitar tab for people and this one is ready so let me know if you'd like it and I'll send you a pdf.
All good wishes,
Ken
