Temporal Tantrum (Sister Savage Mix)

Description
A British singer/songwriter/photographer from the UK, Sister Savage", collaborated on this...

"Sister Savage: I took Drakonis's "Temporal Tantrum" after he suggested he might like someone to add vocals, and I did this. It may be strange, but I like it and he doesn't hate it. :-)

Drakonis: This started as an instrumental backing track for a father/daughter video-editing-bonding experience (here)... but the music by itself seemed to whisper a desire for vocals. I was overjoyed when "Sister Savage" from AloneTone offered to write lyrics and sing over this. She asked me to do a little tweaking of the music to better-fit her lyrics, and then she wrote, sang, and mixed this version... enjoy!

Lyrics
A stranger crept inside my skin
Cut out the damaged little wing
Alien to all I claim to feel
Chorus:
You cannot see, you cannot know, You can't control
You cannot feel, you cannot know, You can't control
She tries to work against me
No more explore my fantasies
She dreams reality
If I to ask of her to leave
(Chorus)
Then she tried to test me
She sent his face to my dreams
But I'm awake now
Took my time to divine but now I see
Cause I'm awake now (x)

Wow?!!!
This is outstanding… haunting, beautiful singing, with atmospheric, driving percussive sounds… the texture is very light, not overkill, and all the more effective because of it. Brilliant!

count the repeats...
I am very excited that this meets with YOUR approval, as it was originally written as a somewhat repetitive backing track for the video, but I think the lyrics and singing really do give an intoxicating texture to this. Glad you like my grinding backing track, Clark.

Brilliant singing ...well treated with the effect
the music itself has a depth ..the synth sound
can be so fake and annoying but here it hold a
true feeling and express nice taste of sound ...
maybe the vocal made all this reasonable ..good
job ...thnx alot for sharin !!!!
drakonis said 39 days ago (October 12th, 2009)
Naturally Feter
This is high praise from you Feter, since electronic music is not your style, so I consider your thoughts very important. My daughter wanted me to write a piece like this (she played me some of her music as examples) so I emulated the style for the little video we made. Then Sister Savage offered to sing it into a different direction, and this resulted... quite fun! I'm glad you liked the way it all turned out, sir!

Eduard this is very cool. Darkly mysterious and ethereal. Ms. Savage did a stellar job on the vocals - I like the stereo delay on the vocals in the chorus. You just might have something here - perhaps we will hear more of this kind of music from you in the near future. Great job - thanks for the share - Sig

Tribal...
Yes! There is something very hypnotic about this: the percussion, mostly, but also the exquisite vocal that is nuanced and suggestive and compelling all at the same time. There are some instrumental solo licks here and there that provide just a tad of spice that makes the overall effect all that more interesting... I am puzzled by the VERY ABRUPT ending. Seems like a fade or a controlled and deliberate ending cadence would be more effective. As it is, I felt just CUT OFF as I got to the end of this evocative track. Really nice work and esp. as a distance collaboration. Actually, quite remarkable. Congratulations to both of you on such a fine composition and performance of it.
Peace.

Paul
She knows how to tell/sing a story. Glad you enjoyed the percussion, I hand-edited every hit, note by note... I consider myself not that great at percussion so I keep practicing that... and I was driving myself nuts on this one, took a long time with that part... glad you enjoyed it! I extended some repeats per her request, to fit her lyrics for this revision, and reworked the "solo licks" and violins a bit, but it is close to the original. I had left the ending an abrupt stop, because I thought she would fade it when she did the mix... so I didn't write any coda. I was surprised at first when I noticed she didn't fade... but on the other hand I started to like the idea of her saying "But I'm awake now." and just having it stop and take your breath away. Endings are always so hard and tricky. I'll defer to her artistic license on this one, since I didn't give her much choice :-) But if *YOU* like it overall, then I'm very excitedly happy! Thank you Paul for the detailed thoughtful listen and comments!

Temporal tantrum
I'm a sucker for this kind of thing. Love the vocal style and performance, the church bells, the relentless (but understated) beat, and the occasional guitar. I didn't mind the ending at all. A big ending wouldn't fit and a fadeout would be too easy. Great production. The vocal effects are perfect.

Most engaging vocal backed in Drak-onian atmosphere of mystery and subtle wonders. I get a hint of Kate Bush here and there. I love the overall tones here - really sets a mood that is all its own. The orchestral bells really work well too as part of the colouration.

So glad, as always, to see you around! Sort of like "Toxic Desire", this is my gritty side :-) I never thought of this as a Bond-style thing, but you're right now that I think of it, there's a bit of tense soundtrack feel to this... hmm. It's funny when you have your head buried in the engine, working on the music with torque-wrenches, you don't really hear it the way others do. It is always exciting to hear what the rest of the world hears in it.

woah!
kind of blew my mind this one! After checking out the original video, I would have never thought this combination of instruments and vocals could work this well, but I'll go ahead and put my preconceived ideas in the '5-minutes ago' drawer. Near brilliant! Rarely heard a voice reminding me this much of Beth Gibbons (don't mean to say this isn't completely original sounding of course!). The ghost vocals are subtle and mixed perfectly. We've come to expect interesting posts from MJ's chief dragon, but with vocals and a production of this caliber, color me impressed (in a dark, silver shimmery kind of way).

not words to be taken lightly
I shall only take credit for the reworked/remixed sound bed... after that, I shipped it off to Sister Savage, and she wrote the lyrics, sang, and did the final mix. She's quite a gem. I hope she comes by to peek at these comments! Thank you Parichayaka, your talent for crystal-clear mixes is legendary, so this is high praise. Woah!
Pretty darned cool stuff for an old dragon. The vocal is of course wonderful, but so is the "Temporal Tantrum" undergarment (did I really just say undergarment? I am perspiring now). Any way, I think the soundbed (er, you know the foundation) is really quite evocative. There is something that sounds like a lead guitar in the middle there, but it might be a synth. And then there are the tense strings, just wonderful.
I like it,
Stephen

Heehee... thank you for entering the dragon's fire here... glad you could stand the heat for a bit! She really warmed things up, I must say. Yes, the guitar (and everything else) was SCORED note-by-note (sorry, that just slipped out), then hand-tweaked for volume curves and pitch-bend. Do I obsess too much? Well, you liked it, so it is worth it then!

She really put a spin on this! Thanks for the mention of what stood out for you in this... the synth-guitar took some note-by-note tweaks to sound realistic, since I don't play one, even on TV. :-) The graphic is a montage from the video, linked in the description, if you want some visual stimulation too :-) Of course, Sister Savage's lyrics create a whole new story, and makes me want to shoot a different video to go with this new take. This song (like all my others) grew from something I almost threw away to this... and I really like it now. Glad to hear you like the pacing and production, very important things for me to try and get right. And yes, she really gave this her all, and surprised us!

Wow!
Very dark, it gives me chills. Vocals are spot on and the way the music builds is fantastic!

Hi John...
Whew, I snuck by with a crappy MIDI-faux-guitar without you cringing too much! Glad you liked it, Sister Savage really made this Temporal Tantrum tangible.

i finally made it!
I have listened to this so many times over the past couple of weeks and I have come here to comment almost as many times but I keep getting lost in the music and forget what I'm doing and then who knows what happens but somehow I never comment. This time it's going to happen! I loved the original of this created for the video, and the vocals just bring it alive! There is a driving energy that is irresistable. I LOVE the bells/vibes. The soundbed and vocals just meld seamlessly - each supporting the other perfectly. This is wonderful - a great collab!

high praise
Kassia, I always value your thoughtful comments, thank you for getting lost (though I *am* glad you did finally tell me where you were, I was getting worried!) I love how this has evolved and has come out, and must give Sister Savage bunches of credit, she really did wonders with it. But I think I may have to dabble in this style a little more before too long. And definitely want to team up with her again, if she'll have me... this was great fun.

So... when is YOUR new one coming out? I know, after all the crises settle, do deal with those first, but I will be anxiously awaiting your next piece!

Wow...
This is a showstopper... hear it on the radio and pull over immediately, turn off the car engine and hope the DJ identifies the tune. Which they don't anymore.

I remember the music from the video. It was superb - ominous and relentless, but the vocals put a glistening knife edge to that darkness. This is just so well done, so very well done.

See? I am, very slowly, beginning to hear some of your work. (rueful smile) I'll get there, I swear, I'll get there.

Unidentifiable madness...
Sister S. did such a hauntingly good job of delivering her story over this, really pumped it up! Glad you tuned in to hear the latest version of it! I need to concoct more of these... just need some spare time!

Holy cow Drak!
I was not expecting anything quite like this. What a voice that gal has! A perfect fit for this spooky and insistent musical bed.

Me thinks you nailed this!

Be well friend!

Hey Eduard
Strong track/song indeed.
Cinematic somehow.
Savage - it fits.
Or tribal, yes.

Great work.
Merci !

Good to see you back!
And I see you also have a new piece I will now go explore too! Several people have mentioned "tribal", maybe the repeated droning music and drumming pattern does that? Anyway, I love Sister Savage's additions to this. Glad you stopped by to listen Bernard, thank you!

How
did I miss this? What a great pairing.:) The driving, pulsing rhythms of your music combined with her softly sublime vocals is a study in contrasts. Something that seems like it shouldn't work somehow works perfectly.:) She has an interesting vocal style here--kind of like a female Bryan Ferry. I like this very much, drak.:)

something for everyone
or at least, that is what I hope in my diverse styles of music. And Sister Savage heard something in this one and jumped on the collab-wagon right away (although maybe she jumped too hard, because her computer broke just then, and she had to wait on this collab until she could get her machine up and running again...) but I'm glad it was worth the wait! And I agree, contrasts are really important.

The Bells
Wow, I really enjoyed how the bells expand the emotional sense of the music, which I really like. Her voice is very soothing and the lyrics are interesting. I like the backing sounds, like some strings sound, the bells, and guitar. Very well done. Gothic indeed!
