Feeling Good Today

Description
This is pretty much a complete rehash of a tune I first posted way back in '05. This is about the third or fourth redo, but there's only one other posted here. Here it is if you want to go back and take a listen.

Everything is new on this except the synth bed, which is a mix down from the original tune. The files for the tune were lost in The Great Firewire Crash of '06, but, somehow or another, the synth mix down found its way from eMac to iBook to MacBook to iMac. Not really sure how, but I'm glad of it cause damned it I know what synth voices I used to get it.

This version is much more of a monster than the original. It's got 44 tracks. Layers and layers of stuff. A thicker synth bed and about twice as many vocal tracks. I was kind of going for a lush wall of sound.

As fort he tune itself, its just a happy little pop tune inspired by a really nice day at the lake.

Feeling Good Today
©2005 Joseph Gurner

Picture this day
A walk on the beach
Five fingers intertwined with five of their friends
Sand on our feet
Nothing to say
Thinking of things to say we haven’t said before

I dream of the days and the nights without end
I sit here alone in the dark and pretned
the visions of you and of me are so real
I scream at the walls as they slowly close in
I long for the warmth of your breath on my skin
and I feel
I’m feeling good today

Birds over head
Dogs running round
Watching the clouds as they drift over head
Feeling the sun
warm on my face
Hoping this is all real and life is a dream

If I could I would go there today
but there’s so many things that will keep me away
I’ll dream of the day and the moment in time
A walk on the beach and the wind in my hair
I close my eyes and my mind is still there
and I feel
I’m feeling good today

Yahoo!
A Jgurner tune!!! All of your tunes are worth several posts! It sounds like the great firewire crash of '06 was nasty... I'm glad I was still on straight MIDI at that point in time so I was not effected.

Wow 44 tracks! I have topped out at 66 on my Happy Birthday Jack tune. But like 10 of the tracks had a single "happy birthday Jack" vocal on them. The rest were pretty jam packed.

This reminds me in many ways of SuperTramp in their logical song days... I think I'd like it if your vocal was a bit further front.

Excellent song Joseph!!!

Tracks, tracks and more tracks!
This isn't even close to the most tracks I've used in a tune. I've had at least one hit 60, if I count all the tracks I bounced for it. If I count the bounced synth tracks on this one, that probably adds another 4 to 6 tracks. I think 18 of the 44 tracks were vocals. Did a lot of layering. It was very hard to get a good balance on the vocals because there were so many tracks.

Back in the summer of 2006, my less than 1 year old Lacie Firewire drive crashed and, naturally, I had very little on it backed up. I lost dozens of completed tunes and even more that I'd been working on or had done rough sketches of. I've redone a few, but, mots of them I'm sure I'll never redo.

And you'd think I'd learn a lesson from that, but...

Thanks for listening. Glad you enjoyed it.

Funny...
The first record I ever bought was a 45 of Supertramp's Logical Song. Definitely a high compliment. Thanks very much.

re-heated rehash
mmmmm! tasty!

i have to agree on the supertramp comments. the multi-vocals nail the sound. funny i didn't see you on the stage back in '75.

Yeah....
I can sort of imagine that moment when Supertramp did that collaborative album with Neil Young and Brian Wilson....

Neat little doublings and triplings and ghostly sonic details... Great wistful vocal... Yeah, you're saying it's a good day, but something in the vocal says that you've had other kinds of days.... Which to me says that you've written a happy or peaceful song that has depth....

great mellow tune
I enjoyed this one a lot, the production is fantastic and full. I got a Cure feeling from your lead guitar and an REO Speedwagon vibe from the backup vox (which are just perfect btw). This a well constructed and realised song. If anything I'd have another look at that lead vocal though

Ed nailed it
SuperT, NY and the big guy for sure.
Nice remix Joe - your harmonies are sounding pretty amazing. I like this a lot. Shades of Dream Academy ("Life In A Northern Town") in the big production too.
