My Blue Genie

Description
Just a little number I've been playing around with since June. It's kind of rough yet, but I got tired of messing with it so I'm posting it to get it out of my hair, (what little hair I have left), and let Y'all pick it apart for me.

Enjoy

You know that guitar is like...
You know that guitar is like...
...hot liquid silk. Nice horns and organ too, I can tell you took your time tweaking this one, great job!

I guess a song could be like children, its good to just let them go sometimes.

Glad you did in this case

Tom

Thanks Tom
Liquid Silk, man that's saying something right there T. I can hear some screw ups in the Organ part, which I'll fix, but not now, But overall I kinda like the pace of it and the feelings it brings out. Now I got to right some lyrics for it and make an honest song out of it.

You right Tom, a song is kinda like a child. Sometimes you gotta let em go so they can mature and come back to ya for the next lesson in life you've got to teach them.

Be well my friend, and thanks again for listening, and the kind words.

Sometimes I do get lucky Mark
and end up with something that sounds really good. If and when I do, a lot of it has to do with listening to you guys here on Macjams and over on iComp. Taking the advice and suggestions that are so freely given by all of you has made a big difference in my work, and I thank all of your for that.

So yeah, it sounds great, but really it's a collaborative effort, even when I work alone.

First rate arrangement and production. All the parts are great in themselves, but the whole is definitely more then the sum of the parts. The guitar is as expressive as a voice.
Great job.

I'm glad you enjoyed the music and I appreciate the kind words n it.

When you said "The guitar is as expressive as a voice." you weren't kidding. There's one point right there near the beginning where I could swear the Guitar actually says something, and it's kind of eerie sounding. But it passes and the guitar starts to sound like a "normal" guitar from there on. It's a bit spooky if you ask me, and I'm the one who played it.

Anyway, thanks again for listening and for the kind words.

Damn me...
just as I get to thinking I have a vague notion about how to do some Blues, something like this comes along and I have to go away and sit in a darkened room muttering 'curses'.Lol, But I guess that is what is so great about Blues there is so much diversity available in what is such a potentially limited format, you would think what with only three chords and a layed down pattern, call, return etc.Great tone, tune and smooth playing, nice one...perhaps I could do with more junk in my studio.....cheers, Chris

Playing around...
INDEED!. Ed, while this is reminiscent of lots of blues-type numbers, it has such a cool and unique swing to it that it's impossible to resist. Love the organ! There is just the right amt. of sleeze in this track, and you have mixed it beautifully, too. Have a BIG sound to it. [That brass!!! and the repeated chords on the keyboard...Wow. Great touches and very well played throughout. Now slam on a major 7th chord with a bunch o' tremulo by the whole band at the end and that'll be the stinger you need.
Just love it...
Peace.

Actually, on this one everything except the drums is me, and I even programmed a fair amount of those.

The Horns are midi that I programmed as well as the organ. Actually, on the organ I played it into midi first on the SY99 and then did a little cleanup and tweaking here and there. The Bass line is a combination of software instrument loops with some special tweaking on my part. So I guess what I didn't actually play, I programmed.

thanks for listening John, glad you enjoyed the ride man. Thanks again for the kind words.

Thank you Tim
It's a little short for a jam, but I kinda of like it that way for posting. In a live gig, this could go on for a long time, special with the horn players taking a turn on the lead.

Thanks for listening tim and for the kind words, glad you enjoyed the ride.

Sing it! (with your guitar or maybe add vox)
Well sung, Ed --on guitar for now... but I can imagine you adding vox someday, maybe in a higher register, with some "sweat" in your delivery like old 60s R&B and blues. Hubba, Hubba
Barbara Eden is a classic Genie. As for the song, who cares, I want my Genie !

Someday I'll drop back into this mode, and it will all come together, lyrics, music and production. For now I'll let it sit for a while.

Thanks for the listen B, glad you liked the sound of it.

Gonna check out the one you sent here in a little while. Get back to ya on that one.

Ed

Thanks for listening Richard
Glad you enjoyed the music, and appreciate the kind words on it. Like I said to Bob6, above, one of these days the words, music, and production will all come together at the same time in the same place. That's when I'll finish it.

Thanks again Richard.
