Description
I've had this in the drawer for a while and finally got around to recording it earlier this evening. Part of my collection "Falling In Love Again". I guess it's a retro love song, but maybe it will speak to your heart. [The photo is by Kim Anderson. I found it on Google Images. Giving credit where it's due.)
Peace.

Lyrics
I recall long ago
When my days were dull and grey.
I was lost, in a daze,
Seemed I couldn’t find my way.
It was dark. I was afraid.
Couldn‘t see which way to go.
Not so sure I would ever know.

Then one day you were there.
In a moment, my life changed.
And I knew you were the one
Who could help me see the light.
It was clear from the start
That you somehow filled my heart.
And I knew we would never part.

When you said you’d like to be with me,
Suddenly I felt so very free.
I’m not sure just why it happened then, my love.
The time just seemed so right.

Now we’ve love all these years,
And we’ve calmed each other’s fears.
Sure enough, you and I
Have let each other fly.
What a wonder to me
How you once set me free from the dark.
You were light to me.

What a journey we’ve been on since then,
Learning all the ways of love, my friend.
We could not have guessed just how our love would grow,
But now we surely know, my love.

transfixed
the words, the music, the song... they are nothing. instead, this is an experience, that washes through me and keeps me completely transfixed through the performance, and you sing through me, as i cannot. another achingly beautiful offering from you to us. thank you paul.

Fantastic!
The opening line reminds me of "There were bells on a hill..." and I must admit this reminds me of a showtune. Nice singing and orchestration, and the sentiment is one of maturity and wisdom. Bravo!

Reminds me of
the feel of the music in "Phantom of the Opera". Kinda like "Music of the Night" feel to it. Enjoy the meandering feel of this one. Sounds great. Very well sung. U are the man!

I think you missed you calling Paul
you have an exceptional gift my friend, for stating the obvious, in so subtle a way as to make it new again. Even though we have all been there, your words and music takes us back and stir those gentle memories, making us long to go back to that time long ago.

What a wonderful gift, thank you Paul.

I can see this being performed on stage...
I agree this has a showtune feel to it. It's expansive--lush and rich and gentle.
Just beautiful!!

Thanks so much for sharing this :)

There aren't a lot of singers...
...doing this sort of repertoire anymore, but man, in my youth every single variety show and afternoon show had guys doing numbers like this.... I'm just composing this short list in my mind of guys you should be sending this to... Or maybe you need to find a list of singers' music directors/producers...

You're getting a lot of mileage out of a lifetime of marital bliss, Paul....

It's show time!
This would work so well on the stage (as Mystified said) and it sounds like you're the man who could carry it off as well.

Excellent performance.

Cheers

Ahh... a love song
Paul, your songs should be in movie soundtracks. It's good to hear songs about enduring love in this fast food world we live in. Sweet and uplifting, thank you.
