Just a little Something

Description
This is something I've been playing around with since August, and I'm out of ideas where to take it next. If anyone has any ideas, send me a note and we'll see if we can make an honest song out of it. So far it's made up entirely of loops, but I'd like to change that later in production.

Right now it's pretty short, only about 2 minutes and it is a little quirky, but I kind of like where it's at and I'm betting someone out there will be inspired to give me a hand on it.

Enjoy what I have so far, if nothing else because it's so weird.

Ed

p.s. I just changed the genre to "Open Collaborating" in hopes of finding a collaborator on this. Listen, and think about it, this could be interesting

Kind of jazzy.
Kind of bluesy. Kind of Ragtime. I like quirky.
Can see Bojangles doing a sand tap dance to this. Thanks.

Well then,
write some lyrics Paula, and sing your little heart out. This could be the next big thing in music with you and the other ChickMunks doing it. I'm game if your are.

Honky-Tonk
How about calling it Honky-Tonk goes West Ed? Interesting marrying of sounds with the heavy guitar and piano, but nice to hear, cheers M

I could not believe
how well the Piano parts fit together with that kind of Funky rhythm. There's got to be something we can do with this, the question is what.

It'll come to me in the fulness of time. (if I could live long enough)

p.s.. I think "If I Could Live Long Enough" a song by Tobin Mueller, and as I recall well worth a listen.

I was staring at that piano...
...when the first power chord kicked in.... I was going to complain about truth in advertising.... lucky for me I kept listening...

Somewhere between Pete Townshend and Bill Payne, somehow...

I'm trying to imagine a sort of lyrical direction....

This was more or less a happy accident.
I had the Bass and drums down and was looking for a piano part for a completely different song, when I stumbled onto this Honky-Tonk Piano. I pulled one loop into a track and listened to it. I couldn't believe the way it just seemed to fit the rhythm backtracks I had. One thing led to another and here tis, a project to work on.

Thanks for listening Ed, if you get any ideas on it, let me know.

Be well,

Ed

So crisp...
So crisp it snaps when you bite it, like good fresh produce. Hard to believe what can be done with them loops, eh? The piano has me drooling for some Little Feat. Some slide might work with this--some kind of "crisp-worthy" clean, up-front recording a la Lowell George. Anyway, nice li'l construction ya got here.

You want that,
With or without salad dressing, Sir.

Remember B, loops are just pre-played music parts that you can assemble as needed. It's like telling your favorite studio musician to play all of his various little licks he uses and then picking out the ones you're going to use as he or she plays them. And depending on how good a recording was used on the loop, the quality can be outstanding.

Time to go make some more music now, thanks for listening Bro,

Got for it Terry
That's why I put it out here, so people could mess with it and see where it take em.

On the Ivories, I'm afraid it's not me,. This whole thing is made up of loops. I was starting work on a different song, and this was just something I stumbled into in that process,. Thought it had possibilities so I posted it.

Thanks for the listen Terry. Let me know if you want the original tracks or need to know what loops I used.

See Terry

Hard to believe it's all loops. Making all of that fit together in such a seamless way is most impressive. Sounds great, reminiscent of Little Feat.

On this one
no one is more surprised about that than i am Dave. I laid the piano on top of the Bass and Drums and it just fit. So I added the Guitars and posted it as an open collab to see where it goes.

Thanks for listening and the kind words Dave.

Be well

I'm thinking his will end up really good
But I'm gonna sit on it for a while and let my Muse work out the details.

If frank comes for a listen and decides he wants to go somewhere with it, by all means. I'd love to see where he'd take it.

In the mean time, thanks for coming over for a listen Johnny. Glad you enjoyed my unfinished tune.

Be well and be cool my friend.

That's why I posted it Richard,
I need someone to do the heavy lifting and take it where it needs to go.

I'll come back to it someday after it's stale in my mind, and rediscover where it really wanted to go. That's when I'll finish it. The Muse always knows best.

thanks for listening Richard. I appreciate that and the kind comments on it.

Be well,

Ed

Let's go honky-tonkin'
That's some great piano playing, but after a while the listener gets the impression that all the modulations are more or less the section, just in different keys. You need something else to bring unity to the composition.

I know! Randy Newman needs to sing some droll lyrics over this!

Yoohoo, Randy, over here!

Hello Vic
Well. that's the reason I posted it a an open collab, so someone like Randy could waltz on up and turn this thing into and honest song. No takers yet, but I remain hopeful.

this makes me realise
why I chose the piano...I don't think you need to do anything to this whatsoever. I hear little bits of Floyd Cramer and Ramsey Lewis amongst other things. Great track.

It's too short, and it leaves me wanting more.
Funny, that's what Jeannie said about it too. Not sure what she meant by that, and I couldn't get her to elaborate, so I'll just have to take her at her word. - (confused look comes over his face)

Glad you listened to it John, and enjoyed it. Thanks for that and the kind words.

Rock Tune?
This is nice, Funky-Tonk! It caught me by surprise, I thought a rock tune was about to start, then BAM! the piano start.
The mix is well balanced, and blends the diverse styles seamlessly.

Ya know, this was a happy accident. I started out in one direction, and then accidentally threw the Piano loop over the Rock parts I'd already started and wham, there it was. It was a totally unexpected sound, that just seemed to work. So I posted it to see if anyone wanted to play around with it. No takers yet, but that;s okay, I like it as is.

Thanks for listening Steve

This is...
absolutely engaging, Ed. I love every aspect of it, especially the wonderful piano (of course!). This is all loops? You have a really great feel for how these would all glue together. There's got to be a big old melody coming out of this somehow. Don't know what it would be, but I hope someone will pick this up and go with it it. I wonder if there's a way to transpose loops, too. That would be quite cool as the number played out. Just a thought. Anyway, I think you're on to something cool here and hope you will pursue finishing it.
Peace.
Paul
