Description
Hi everyone

So. It's been quite a while since I've been here and uploaded anything. One reason is that my sound-card broke. Twice. Which meant 2 months without it. So it's been a time away from recording and back to other things in a deeper way, which has been good.

This said, we're back ! We, being yours truly with a new piece that also stars Tom Devine on bass and Jay Hagen on flugelhorn - two fine musicians from over at iCompositions.

Leaving aside the fact that my sound-card broke as I was close to do its final mix, the making of it has been quite an adventure that took it's own sweet time. For instance. . . There's a long bridge in it where I invited Tom to do a solo, and I kept pushing him take after take - gently of course ! - to do better, feeling that he could. And he could indeed. Clearly. As for Jay. . . Well, I recall Tom telling me at some point, as I was waiting for Jay's track, that if it might take him a little time, he always turned up with something real beautiful. Was he ever right.

So I'd like to thank Tom here for his patience in putting up with what I somewhat heard and for fulfilling it with his inspired and sensitive playing - it's been a true pleasure collaborating with him, always.

And I'll also thank Jay here for adding his touch with those exquisite flugelhorn's lines, for taking the time to learn the theme and for his responsiveness to my own lines - it's been a real pleasure collaborating with him too.

For the record :

Tom Devine - Bass
Jay Hagen - Flugelhorn
Me - Acoustic/electric guitars
and guitar-synth.

Enjoy.

Andy - how are you. . .
My absence, right - apart from that card's breakdown, guess I needed a break myself - how wise is life. . .

Inspired and fully conceived. Well yes, quite a bit of work went into this one, from all of us. Tom and jay have been very generous with it, to say the least.

Thanks for listening

a warm return with friends
Sweet gentle introduction, which gives no indication that a complex warm jazzy piece is to follow. The flugelhorn work is indeed wonderful here, adding warmth... the bass work is gorgeous, and the guitar also adds a nice spice to the mix, rounding this whole thing out to be a thoughtful gentle jazz piece. I generally do not like the angular hit-you-over-the-head pieces, so this is quite sweet. Really nice mixing here too, everything is well balanced. Thank you three, for starting off my day in a nice direction!

Love the artwork too, the meditative line that passes from a treble clef to nirvana :-) Did you draw that?

ttfn,
Drakonis

Hey Eduard
A thoughtful gentle jazz piece. . . quite sweet. . .

We'll take that - sweet of you !

And "really nice mixing. . . well balanced. . ." Now, that sweet to my ear too as I struggled quite a bit with it, as I generally still do.

Ah, the artwork, yes. An old drawing of mine that I always loved and often felt I'd use it as a logo one day
for all my artistry.

So, here it begins.

: - )

Thanks for listening, Eduard

Hi Charlene
A journey into bliss - what more to ask. . .

Thoughtful, spiritual, well conceived - OK, we'll take that too.

Hmmm, there's only one 'featureless player of programmed music' here
- the EZdrummer jazz drummer, who does quite a good job at it.

Ah yes, gold on dark blue - hmmm, that would be

subtle but smooth a real gem, its great when artists can get together and produce something as great as this! tops thanks for the download btw the horn is just to beautiful the guitars at around 8:00 are like two birds swirling in the air and then the bass just talks its way toward an open window that allows the horn in so that they can just dance greatness I will be playing this over and over!

Welcome back from your hiatus, my friend, it's good to hear your work again. Sorry to hear about the interface going bad, but sometimes out of disaster comes triumph. I suspect this is one of those times.

I love the breathing rhythm of the synth
that you start with - perfect guide for this meditation. Then the piece gently takes flight and man do you guys deliver the goods. So great to hear the Flugelhorn played and used so well. This is top notch work on everyone's part - a truly inspired work. Great bass and guitars - and BTW - you don't credit your drum composing which is also very impressive.

The drum composing
As you mention it, it makes me aware that I indeed forgot to mention the drums in the credits. I wish I had the time to compose drums parts - I trust I could from the little I did - yet the reality is that it takes way too long for me. So I use ready made grooves - in this case EZdrummer Jazz - though then, after arranging the sections, I'll tweak the grooves in the piano-roll to better fit the music, etc.

Glad you enjoyed us so, Bud

FREEDOM...
That's what I hear as this number opens up. That synth/strings is like someone breathing, and the solo guitar is nicely played, especially the double stops that are so subtle yet effective. ... And they you take off into a quiet jazz world full of blues and purples. I feel like I am listening to a personal conversation -- maybe an inner dialogue -- that I am not exactly supposed to be hearing. ... Horn...oh, nice. You have a few really excellent players at your disposal, not the least of which is your own skillful guitar playing. ... I am thinking of just one suggestion that might elevate this to an even higher level than it already is: Transpose UP a step or two about 8 or 9 minutes into the number so that you can fly with a new tonal center for a bit...
Wow. This is a great improv that you've very carefully constructed and mixed.
Peace.
Paul

What a great combination of talents! :)
Sorry to hear about your soundcards but, as you say, one door closing means another opens... this is so lovely and takes me away on your combined wings. Love, love, love it. :)

Smooth
You guys integrate the instruments so well, it's as if you practiced this for months. I'm glad you persevered with this. It sounds great.:-)

Beautiful Collaboration

Fab Flugelhorn
Really nice flugelhorn. I really enjoyed the moment when you played in parallel with him. Very cerebral & smooth track. Enjoyed!
