Description
Michael posted a post-modern tango without lyrics some time ago (Silent Tango by michael2). Coming from Argentina, I thought Michael posted it for me (even somebody mentioned Billy/Associates in the comments. Coincidence? mmmh). So I started to work on Michael's song as soon as I could upload one in macjams.
Working on the lyrics was so much fun. I was thinking in lyrics in Spanish with Argentinean slang if possible, so I started to look for words in there. In the beginning it was like playing a record backwards and trying to find hidden satanic messages, but slowly some words started to appear and after a while Michael was singing the whole song in Spanish! Awesome!
So I just wrote what Michael "says" in the song and overdubbed the vocals, just to make sure everybody hears the same lyrics I was thinking of. Michael is still in the song as he sings what I'm singing! (yes, in some way now he's singing what I wrote without knowing what he was saying. Scary, but so funny :-)
I also added some bandoneon the best as I could. A bandoneon with Piazzola influences. No bandoneon soft instrument in GB, so I tweaked an accordion I downloaded free for that. The last touch is a violin sample that creates a nice bridge. Ah, also restructured a little bit the song: moved the second verse immediately after the first without the solo in between. I think it's a little bit more balanced this way.
Technically the song is a milonga, not a tango. The difference is in the metrics: 2/4 is tango; 3/4 (or 3-3-2/4) is milonga. A small detail that most listeners, even in the Rio de la Plata, won't notice. It sounds like a tango anyway.
If you like this kind of music take a look to these bands: Bajofondo Tango Club, Gotan Project, and look for "neo tango". And also Astor Piazolla, of course.
Thanks Michael!

Lyrics
Pensás
Me tentás, oh mujer.
Me tentás en tu dulzor.
Ella y Menta.
Ella y Fresas,
Y crema. Oh.
Y crema. Oh...
Entre los sueños,
En si, la tengo.
Asi. Ella.
Acero. Bella.
Es sensual, es.
Es deslizarse.
Es desear.
Es pedir.
Pensás...
Me tentás, oh miedo a amar.
Me tentás en tu dulzor.
Es vivir .
Es partir.
Pensás...
[Translation to English]
You Think
You tempt me, oh woman
You tempt me in your sweetness
She and mint
She and strawberries
And cream
And cream
Amid dreams,
In fact, I have her.
So she. Is.
Steel. Beauty.
Is sensual.
Is to slide.
Is to wish.
Is to request.
You think...
You tempt me, oh fear to love
You tempt me in your sweetness
Is to live.
Is to leave.
You think...
Me tentás, oh mujer.
Me tentás en tu dulzor.
Ella y Menta.
Ella y Fresas,
Y crema. Oh.
Y crema. Oh...

En si, la tengo.
