Description
So sorry I've been so scarce; great to be back. So... taking a break from my usual, distorted Guitarbage, I wrote and began recording this two weeks ago on my daughter's fifth birthday. She's already memorized the words (unlike her senile dad), and sings on-pitch. I gotta get her behind the mic one day.

The acoustic rhythm and electric slide arrangement follows a quick little sketch I did of George HArrison's Give Me Love (over at iComps).

Lyrics
Yours and Mine

I don't know any monsters, and I don't know no ghosts
I don't think much of aliens flying in their UFOs
But when it comes to angels, I do believe it's true
Because my little angel… my little angel's you

You are like a mountain that I love to nature-walk
Love to love your majesty, your halo-crown of hawks s
We climb upon your North slope, slide down your southern grade
We love you in the sunshine… we love you in the shade

Everyday is a good day, Everyday's just fine
But today is something special…
I am yours, and you are mine

You are like a rainbow reaching for the sun
Arching over everything, a gift to everyone
And of all the colors that shine so bright and bold,
The one that shines most brightly? Your heart of gold

I've gone loopy
Thanks, Kody. I wrestled a lot with the percussion & drum loops. I dislike the beasties but need 'em. I nitpicked every measure to ad variety and simulate varying stick attacks. I could always pick-up my shakers or the kid-tambo laying around, but I'm no human click-track for dang sure...

Goodness ..this is just awesome ...perfect gutiar

your vocal shine so good here ..the bass catch
all the sounds behind this is a cool track .....
a classic ....thnx alot for sharin !!!!
Bob6stringer said 13 days ago (November 7th, 2009)
Wow, Mr. Fete!!!
I'm gratified to read your feedback. One thing, on the balance/panning of guitars: The main backbone is the acoustic, where I doubled the track and varied the EQ and effects slightly (left is a little dirtier and less bright). I also shift one of the doubled tracks a few milliseconds to provide a sort of DIY chorus/delay that feels less "chemical" than the effects settings.

A third acoustic track low in the background provides some flange on one side, balanced by the slide duo-leads on the other side. THANKS AGAIN, FETER.

Best one yet my Bro
Love the mix and the changes in the slide worked perfectly.

You need to sing more B, you actually have a good voice in spite of what you think or say about it. Your voice has a lot of character in it and has a unique sound.

Great song that will bring Maya to tears when she grows up and thinks back to this time. (Tears of Joy)

Great job Bro.

Thanks back at ya, bro.
Thanks for lending an ear. Your encouragement will goad me to sing more. I hope the rest of the community can handle my learning curve. But it is fun to exercise the pipes in ways that eclipse my usual grousings.

I know we talked about me doing some chicken pickin' here, but I had to put the slide to use after dabbling with the George Harrison sketch.

Ahh...
There it is! I love this tune as you already know. Although I wish you hadn't put the chorus effect on the acoustic. It was much better as a straight acoustic.

Fun lyrics full of heart Bob. Nice job singing them too!

Chorus and other details
On the chorus, I take your comment to heart. The main guitar part (which is doubled and paned L&R) is all-natural except for 15% or so smallish-room reverb and a bit of low-end removed. But there's chorus on a secondary track I used in the intro/repeated riff... I tried not to overdo it.

Regarding your second comment: Don't let her here you call her that. She's aways reminding me, "Daddy I'm not cute, I'm pretty!"

Hope you liked the mini-break at 2:10, where I added acoustic slide chords in drop-D and some picked leads.

Acoustic guitar mixing
THANX, DAVE! In my comment to Mike "Calchas" Wark, (above, or CMND+F "Chorus and other details"), I discuss how I got the sound I did (such as it is). In addition I used GB's multiband compressor on the acoustic tracks more for EQ than compression, to reduce the low end (to leave the bass its space) on the acoustic, add a touch of midrange and a little less treble (to leave my "voice" some room).

Thanks. And I'm on it, Bob. She's got an original pop-tune she sings over and over (in the key of C, in a 1-4-5 kind of tune): "You give me something to love again / you give me something to remember."

You made my day
Man, Craig, that's so great to hear -- IF you only know how I struggled -- struggle -- to write a song like this, all about love, without devolving into a pathetic navel-gazer.

NEWS OF THE DAY: My daughter brought a CD of my stuff, with this on it, to preschool today, and the teachers told me when they played this tune, she was beaming from ear to ear with pride. If I were to die tomorrow, I'd die happy. But besides being for my daughter, it's for all of us who have a kid, or even a kid inside us. I want it to be adult-friendly, and not just for nice/boring adults. I'm just not THAT nice a guy!

I'm not worthy!
Much appreciated, Charles, especially knowing your own talents on acoustic and vox. I spent a lot of time getting the mix right in GB '08, I'm likely to leave it, although Calchas has me wondering of there's too much flange on one backround track that I raise up for one of the main riffs.

Keeping it light
I almost re-recorded the vox due to slides like the transition in "because my little angel.. my little angel you" in the 1st verse. But I figured I'd never be able to do that if I planned it. As far as getting into satire, I don't mean any mockery of things "redneckian" (Check out my Farmageddon YouTube playlist (linked to my "virtual garage" site (see profile page). I didn't want to be too corny OR snarky, so tried to keep it light in that middle ground. Thank you (tapadh leat) for the listen, Your Highlander-ness!

Bron Yr Aur... righty!
I'd sure like to be (on) the same page as Jimmy. If there is a Page influence hidden in there it's at the break at 2:10 in the right channel where I have a small touch of open-tuned acoustic slide. I grew up jamming with JP on "Bron Yr Aur Stomp" (and later "Nobody's Fault...").

I admire the guitar sound you achieve in this, so full and warm, easy on the ears, like soft cotton to the skin. The lyrics are fun, quirky and positive. I like that the mix is not upfront and in your ears. Its laidback and unobtrusive.
Great song-- I can see this on Nick Jr. I have a 16 month old daughter and we just love the Laurie Berkner band ever heard of them? This reminds of that type of music

Is there market?
Thanks for the compliments, Tom. I just looked-up Laurie Berkner... she's thankfully very adult-friendly for little-kid music. I can see how the softer sound here -- I toned-down the high EQ even -- is similar to her tunage. I think this song isn't quite as "young" ... I hope it's listenable to an adult wen the kid's not in the room. But you got me wondering if there's a market... !
