Damballa

Description
Damballa is a Snake god in Vodou. His wife is the rainbow serpent. What a great theme for a song!

This is the third song from back in my old high school days that I have rearranged and rerecorded all of the parts. Don Wrege,
Chris Lee and I had a trio back then and wrote and recorded some very odd tunes. This is one of the strangest
that we did.

Chris Lee wrote these very peculiar lyrics.

I still have a tape of the original performance. Brings back memories.

If you enjoy this, please also check out the following from my macjams tunes... They were written and performed by the same trio:

- The Sphunx.
- Honeymoon on Mars.

I hope you enjoy this one. I had a blast redoing it.

Lyrics
Through the breath of all creation
moves a mighty spirit nation
and they got no hesitation
cause they know their destination

They got freedom like the four winds
they got power like the storm
they got love to keep them mellow
they got hate to keep them warm

And their Daddy is Damballa
All the rubble, Jubilation
Flying rainbow snake who fills mankind
with sweet temptation.

Damballa got forked tongue
but still he speaks true..
Gonna lay some voodoo bugaloo
on you, on you.

Damballa got the eye to see
The center of reality
Damballa got the world to free
Slaves of mere mortality
Drop your razor and your gun
Damballa got the ancient sun
Damballa he's the only one
Join the dance that he's begun

Damballa got forked tongue
but still he speaks true.
Gonna lay some voodoo bugaloo
on you, on you.

LIke a sip of blood and honey
Like a clip of gold and money
Fingertips on silk and leather
The shiver of a peacock's feather
Damballa speaks of pleasure
He calls us all together
Men can meet his measure
He will live with us forever
And reveal to us the treasure
Of the land of never, never

Damballa got forked tongue
but still he speaks true..
Gonna lay some voodoo bugaloo
on you, on you.

Spinal Tap
This was a Spinal Tap moment for me, especially redoing it 35 years later.

The subject matter seems right out of Spinal Tap, doesn't it?

Great, proggy Hoodoo here.
Did you ever hear of Crack the Sky? Their first, classic (old) album had some of your razor-sharp prog-guitar feel. But your mythical lyrics are all your own. (Okay, Chris.') Nicely done, pat your old young self on the back for this one.

Good song
and this rerecording sounds great.

Y'know, I did some stuff in my high school days that I thought was "very odd" but in retrospect it wasn't that far out. I was just exploring, and often rediscovering what was already out there. I have the same feeling about this tune: at the time you may have felt that you were "way out there" but do you feel the same way in retrospect? If I look back at my own early efforts, it's far too clear what I stole where and who my influences were.

That doesn't take away from the fact that this is a very solid song. Much enjoyed.
