In the Middle of Nowhere

Description
This is sort of an episode of the Twilight Zone put to music, I guess. I especially like the way the "Alan Parson" bass track came out. Not sure what "genre" this really is.

Lyrics
In The Middle of Nowhere

Rain-drenched road in a bleary night
Many miles to go before daylight
My eyes are heavy and I’m losin’ site
of that endless centerline.
I catch myself with a sudden nod
I shake my head and I swear to God
And crank up the tunes on the old iPod
And the wipers are just keeping time.

At the edge of the dark I can barely see
A figure stands near a twisted tree
Through the rain, bright eyes looked at me
And it seemed a bit insane
Without a word, and without a nod
I shake myself and I swear to God
Something told me this was mighty odd
And she slipped in out of the rain.

CHORUS:
In the middle of nowhere, not a sign in sight
In the middle of nowhere in the dark of the night
When imagination takes a terrible flight
Is it all inside my head?
Was it all a dream instead?
In the middle of nowhere…

BRIDGE:
No idea what came over me
It was way beyond my control
I lost all sense of reality
And I think it cost my soul

Next thing I knew I was all alone
I felt OK, but chilled to the bone
Sat behind the wheel as the headlights shone
on the wet, abandoned highway.
The clock on the dash just had to be wrong.
I couldn’t have sat here for all that long
But the sense of the loss was terribly strong
Was that hitch hiker heading my way?

CHORUS:
In the middle of nowhere, not a sign in sight
In the middle of nowhere in the dark of the night
When imagination takes a terrible flight
Is it all inside my head?
Was it all a dream instead?
In the middle of nowhere…
In the middle of nowhere…
In the middle of nowhere…

In the Middle
Excellent song David! I like the 'stream of consciousness' lyric style and the balance of instruments with the vocals. Fine harmony too. It's an all round good 'un. Well done!

This is one your best, David. Wonderful atmosphere, arrangement. The lyric/story rolls out beautifully. Your singing, as always, is a pleasure to listen to.

Just a folk singer. Well - mostly a folk singer, but I like to try just about every style a middle-class white guy from Mid-Michigan can sincerely try. Be sure to check out my "band" — I used to play R&R with these guys back in the 70s, but now we'... [see more]
