Description
This is a song I wrote last summer but didn't like as a guitar song; I rediscovered it when playing with my new piano plug-in (Native Instruments Akoustik--I love it!

As you will be able to tell, I'm not exactly a mixing engineer--I'm particularly EQ-challenged, which seems to be more of an issue as the arrangement gets denser later in the song. Would appreciate any suggestions, tips, comments, feedback on the mix as well as on the song itself!

Lyrics
LABOR OF LOVE

There are books to eradicate your evil
There are articles to guide you to the good
There are monographs and paragraphs
Sometimes you just have to laugh
When the answer's no mystery
But we still don't do what we should

We're so full of useless knowledge
Wasted all those years off in college when
Hard work is what built the big skyscrapers
And hard work is what tilled the forty acres
And it is hard work to fix what's broken between me and you
But it's a labor of love, it's a labor of love

We know how to save the burning forests
And we know a hundred ways to end the war
We know content memes and rhyming schemes
Organized in proven themes
But nowhere along the way
Did anyone tell us what it was for

We're so full of useless certainty
Wasted all that time in university when
Hard work is what built the big skyscrapers
And hard work is what tilled the forty acres
And it is hard work to fix what's broken between me and you
But it's a labor of love, it's a labor of love

Put your hand in my hand
Rest your arm on my arm
Lean your head on my shoulder
Think of something to say
Cast a glance over my way
If we want to get anywhere
We've got to start somewhere

Hard work is what built the big skyscrapers
And hard work is what tilled the forty acres
And it is hard work to fix what's broken between me and you
But it's a labor of love, it's a labor of love

Cool Song
You remind me of someone I know, Terry Kitchen, who you can find at http://www.terrykitchen.com/ You might even know him if you've been on the folk circuit.
I don't think the EQ is really an issue much. The lead vocal is a little too out-front but that's a little tweak no big deal. I think the song could probably be presented better if it was a little simplified. I'm not crazy about the drums and the guitar solo is a little too effected, as are the harmonies. A little heavy on the chorus effect, if you ask me. I guess you're going for big and anthemic but it just sounds a bit odd to me.
But it's a really well written song and has a great message.

You are an excellent song writer; your mixing is just fine. Nice back-up vocals and piano.
