Description
“I figure the listener requires about half of what you think you require when you’re the creator.
I’ve come to realize that I can trust listeners, they don’t need to be constantly woken up. They’re happy to drift for a while and come back in when the music comes back in.
In general, the listener wants much less than the creator.
When you’re creating something, it’s very easy to get into a nervous state and think ‘Oh God, here’s a whole bar where nothing happens,’ and try to get more stuff in. But as a listener you’re quite happy with these open spaces.
I often found that I preferred the pieces played back at half speed.
This was just not because of the softer, more sombre tonality, but simply because less happened.”
This is track number 2 of the Steam Pod virtual EP by APOD
This is one of the earlier mutations of the heartbeat drum track that Michael initially sent for us to work on. Included are some raspy, distorted steam sounds along with extra industrial ambience from Bud. I divided the track into two, the first half with extra background synth washes that sit under the distortion. In the second half I added some muted vocals and de-emphasised the distortion. Also I added more clicky drum loops courtesy of Michael - (at least that’s how ‘I’ remember it)
Here is the complete track listing (with links) for APOD's 'Steam Pod' EP
1) Steam Pod - posted only as part of the combined 31 minute mix
2) A.P.K. parts 1 and 2 (posted by particledots)
3) Behind Enemy Lines (with particledots and bud) (posted by michael2)
4) Calling (posted by sonicmagpie) (posted by APOD)
5) PODtoki featuring Mystified (posted by APOD)
6) Eye for You (w/particledots and michael2) (posted by Bud)
