Great Production &mdash 12/21/04 - 12:21:22 PM
I thought the tune and lyrics were just ok, but I thought the production was one of the best I've heard here. Good job putting this tune together! 7-10-7-8. [ Reply to This ]
wall of sound &mdash 12/22/04 - 01:33:49 PM
Great vocals and guitar!
Powerful, relevant and all-too-true lyrics.
The accompaniment was on the verge of being very thick
at times, but you always pulled back just before overload.
You do balance the many elements of this track in a
unified wall of sound.
I particularly liked the first part of the breakdown.
Excellent performance in every aspect. [ Reply to This ]
wall of sound &mdash 12/22/04 - 01:44:00 PM
yeah... you're pretty much right about the wall of sound. Loads of EQ trimming was needed to clean out the sound. First effort in ProTools so if I was attacking this thing from the start again I'd hold back a lot more... there's a lot of legacy stuff in there. But having said that the uncompressed aif file on a good stereo reveals a lot more subtlety in the piece. Thanks for you're words tho :-)

Give us more! &mdash 12/26/04 - 06:53:19 PM
This is a great tune musically and lyrically. I love the
message of the song. It's kind of rare these days to find a
well-written song with a political or social message. They
usually just hit you over the head. This and "Mother" are
great tunes.
Give us more, please, please, please. [ Reply to This ]
slow worker &mdash 12/26/04 - 07:36:30 PM
hey - i'm a slow worker. Got a couple of tunes on the boiler at the moment, one of which is a an instrumental (retro surf rock rip-off). plenty of lyrics to see me for a while. Just need to pull my finger out. There could be a teaser posted soon. keep an eye out. Cheers for the feedback :-)

Great pacing and arranging &mdash 12/28/04 - 01:12:22 PM
Nice use of ambiguity in the lyrics and great use of vocal
layering, guitars, and steady driving drums. All around
excellent. Love the way you increase the energy, then
give it space with effects and clever arranging, never
losing the drive forward, never losing momentum. I've
listened 4 times now and love it more. [ Reply to This ]

Ever heard of a band called Blue Nile? &mdash 01/05/05 - 04:44:53 PM
the quiet bits here sound a lot like them. The spacey
sounds are fab. Breakdown sounds like a female dance act
I can't think of (Beyonce..dunno..!?). Cool guitar all round
and excellent drums.
Nice one. [ Reply to This ]
Beyoncé ? &mdash 01/05/05 - 05:01:19 PM
... never heard of her :-) gotta admit... sometimes my sense of humour gets the better of me. But why not eh? With all the sampling that goes on today - here's one back for real musicians ;-D Cheers for the feedback.

Nice Groove &mdash 01/22/05 - 06:07:29 PM
Love the way the chorus is put together. Also really
appreciate the Neil Schon style guitar riffs. The hard rock
guitar on the pop groove works really well for me. When
will you be posting some new music? [ Reply to This ]

putting some finishing touches to a little instrumental piece at the mo. i'm a slow worker - so in a couple of weeks i might be satisfied. i probably spend too long on production :-)

Bring it on &mdash 01/25/05 - 03:48:38 PM
I like the song structure. The lead vocal, while quite
expressive, seems a little timid or tamped down in places
(esp. the early part of the song). The chorus sections
sound a little thick for my ear (both on my Sherwood
speakers and Sennheiser headphones). Some
wonderful moments of polyphony when you
intertwine chorus of "oh oh's" with speaking voices. Nice
break at the 3/4 mark - provides needed relief. Very
professional sounding. 8988 [ Reply to This ]

Love it! Looking forward to listening to your other two.
Definitely one of the most enjoyable I've come across.
Really good sound: the vocal layers; the guitars; the
drums. Excellent work. [ Reply to This ]

I like your sense of song construction. From concept to
lyric, to exectution and performance. Very fresh and
original.
