Lyrics
Dreams

Clock radio plays static,
Hit snooze on automatic
But I don’t stir, I much prefer
These dreams

That’s where we get together,
There’s always sunny weather
When you I see, unconsciously
In dreams

Can’t help this mask I’m wearing,
Expressionless and staring
Nothing’s wrong
I just belong in dreams

I built a dream house for two
A castle made just for you
I’m living there
In the clean thin air of dreams

So won’t you hurry evenin’
No one should see me grievin’
Turn out the lights
I’ll delight in dreams

I know it’s fantasy
But it feels real to me
So let me sleep
And plumb the deep
In dreams

Tone
Thank for the listen, Feter. Lead guitar played thru a Pod on 'streets with no name" setting, their approximation of the Edge's tone, I think. In terms of genre, pop/folk will do. I was trying for a sorta Roy Orbison, Brian Wilson vibe here.

Lovely song and performance
Shame about all that noise on the intro - I almost switched off. Very much in the Elvis C mould, which isn't at all abad thing - like the solo sound, and the low key approach to it. One note sounds wrong to me in the line "But it feels REAL to me".
Excellent post (apart from the intro few seconds).

intro
Thanks for the comments and careful listen, Neil. I agree about the intro. Will take another crack to eliminate noise. Funny, I didn't consciously go for Elvis C. style. But in trying for Roy O.--Brian Wilson--Buddy Holly, I may have arrived at Elvis C by default!

I can certainly hear....
...the Elvis Costello influence....

This is a very sweet song, well written, elegantly simple. I love the electric guitar that chimes in at about the 1:40 mark... Just enough....

retro pop!
very nice. that guitar solo sounds way better than U2.
great vocals too. a small part of it sounds a bit like something from John Lennon's last album. however it's got its own thing going on and is very enjoyable!

Beautifully crafted pop song!
I get the Elvis C references but the melody and harmony both recall Brian W to me. Your vocal is so relaxed and nicely delivered here, it's a pleasure to listen. (I'd put a lot less delay on the guitar solo, but then, it's not my solo, is it...)

great song
This is the real deal. A couple comments-

The melody at "can't help this mask I'm wearing, expressionless and staring" is pretty much note for note John Lennon in Starting Over. ("But when I see you darlin' it's like we both are fallin' in love again... it'll be just like starting over"). I assume you realized this, because you tried singing it a bit differently the next time through. Work out this kink, and it will be a perfect song.

My initial thought
was that the acoustic in the left ear was a bit too up front. But later it seemed to even out. Nicely done!

I've been singing and playing since the age of fourteen when my brother Paul was working his way through the Beatle book and needed someone to play with. From Paul I learned to fingerpick, play barre chords, and to sing the melody while he sang harmo... [see more]
