I'm glad you did, too
This is a cool, fun piece of music. It's like Simon & Garfunkel go Trans-Siberian, the Richard Thompson takes over. (Or I could be just weird. I really dig this!

(Every tim I hit the download button an any song, the song stops playing. Same thing when the download ends. I'm going to listen to this in iTunes...

i think i get the RT ref, in the guitar parts, but the S&G ref eludes me...

in any case, glad you like it!

i too have had troubles with the player stopping suddenly - but not recently - it seems to happen when the server falls behind or my bandwidth takes a hit - not clear if it's MJ or my ISP.

thanks

Very cool track Smokey
trying to figure if it connects to the season or just has a festive air. I love all the uses of reverses and cuts. You've really made something quite unique. OK - now it's getting really strange. That's a good thing.

no intent to sync up to the season - i simply managed to finish this project - i started this in Sept 2008

i drove most of this by trying to emulate my original tape - backwards effects, multitracked guitars, etc. the original had no drums in it however - i borrowed a synth which appeared at the end of the tape (forgot the make/model) - i got my girlfriend to sing the long drone note (which i looped somehow) - the other voices i actually sang, but here it's all synths. maybe i should post the original tape

thanks

Love it.
I get Celtic, except for the instruments. A little bagpipe could work in here. Lol! So happy, celebratory. This is now a favorite piece.
Thanks.

back in '76 i was strongly influenced by an artist who did in fact use bagpipes in some of his songs.

glad to hear you liked this!

thanks

I wondered about that picture...
looks like a refurbished tubular tailpipe that you found in an "old field" then? :-)

A Pict is worth 1024 words...
I also hear Char's Celtic Bagpipe hints in the early guitar line, but this has a bit of an '80s rock feel, but mostly this has a SmokeyVW feel. Nice bit of interlocked choir writing. Love the unwound ending.
ttfn,
Drakonis

but... it was supposed to be a mid-70's tape remake...

the choir is mostly what i made up back in '76

that ending happened because i never finished the original tape - so i let it deconstruct itself to end it...

thanks

instruments
Great melody...I think a Rhodes piano would be AWESOME on this track. It would give it that proggy feel for sure and just make it super happy! Love the synths at the end...very nice change up. Nice work!

you are right! that would really set the genre. hmmm... maybe another version will need to be done. perhaps a collab?

that synth ending happened in the original tape because i had borrowed a synth (i had none at the time) during the middle of working on this song way back when. i mostly copied the instrumentation in this remake

thank you for listening and commenting

my original tape had no percussion at all - i went a bit crazy adding it in this version - i treated the snare separately from the rest of the kit

glad you liked

thanks!

Nice Worldly electro classic groove
You packed a lot into a short time. Every note is just perfect! Mood swings as well. I am having a hard time finding the time sig. I say 4/4, then I lose it, but the groove never goes away, You are good about making that transparent!
Love the bounce at about 2:50, very cool!

it is a meandering exploration of variations on a theme i guess

it is mostly 4/4 at 125 bpm - there are only one or two fractional measures - the tempo changes around 3:50, but it returns to 125 bpm for the synth ending

thanks

It's Snowing!!!! : )
....on your homepage!!!!! : ) I miss snow - not the shoveling, just the "Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost part. : ) Ahh,.... like this song very much, Big Brother Bill!!! : ) 1976 - a year filled with the promise of the world awaiting us. : ) I agree w/ Ms. Roxylee - think I can hear a touch of Simon & Garfunkel - might have been a slight influence of the times when you were composing the music, like a vineyard where the grapes take on some of the influences in their immediate environment, and the resulting wine takes on hints of the many other tastes and smells around that specific vineyard where it was produced when you swirl a bit in the bottom of a good properly shaped wine glass and inhale the wine's character. Worked for a wine company a while back - learned some useful and interesting info. : ) My Fav song of S&G was always their rendition of "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme" I always think of a simpler innocent time, and you and Leigh B. when I hear that song. : ) I like the way your song changes near the end - filled itself with a feeling of "come along with me for the best is yet to be." Although, that's what the Pied Piper said to the children of Hamlin. :~P I've been missing you, Big Brother, and MJs as well. I'll be back after the holidays on a more regular basis. Big doins 'round here this Christmas - I'll write and tell you!!! : ) Re: artwork - (?) - car part or phallic symbol? If 'tis the latter, needs an arrow at the end and should be pointing up. : ) [[giggle]] Just teasing Big Bro! : )

nice to hear from you!

the old days are long gone, yet they influence us even today

artwork
that pic is an O Pipe (Single Exhaust) - it provides 100% back pressure feedback on ALL engines - i thought it was similar to Mike Oldfield's bent Tubular Bell album cover - but bent in a different way

see http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=3 - they feature lots of cool auto parts such as the 710 Cap, or A Round Tuit

thank you dear

I keep
hearing a sort of electronic 'Highland Fling' in this..... has fresh 'ringing in the new' feel too, so maybe I'm right with the Scottish thing..... ringing in the New Year.... always an enjoyable listen, M

I can hear a hint....
...of S&G, and I definitely hear that keyboard-sounding-like-Richard-Thompson-making-his-guitar-sound-like-a-modal-bagpipe thing, and there's a dash of Tull in there, too... All mashed up by having the lines not carried by the sounds you'd necessarily expect... And a bit of Eighties synth-ness...

And the lines themselves, I think, are the best part.... Neat melodic lines, Bill...

One of your ones that could conceivably take a vocal....

awesome
this is the weirdest song Bill (i mean that as a compliment). it is progressive, ambient, and kind of glam sounding (roxy music/eno). transfixing really; love those moog lines after the acoustic breakdown. nice track.

No guitars harmed in production.
I like the structure, the chord changes. It vaguely reminds me of some Steve Morse celtic guitar tracks... I'd love to hear this with real guitars. No offense to you, but synth guitars just don't do it for me. Again, very nice song structure.
