Good song and performance &mdash 12/22/04 - 08:37:19 PM
I'm getting some bad buzz (not wine-related and, I don't
think, intentional) in my headphones though.

There's no other answer, you must have bad speakers! ;)

what the buzz... &mdash 12/28/04 - 05:07:50 PM
I realized you are reffering to an instrument I use through the chorus. It is an
industrial style synth that is verryy fuzzy by nature. I wishi i had the technical
skill to master these tracks before posting!

I am super impressed with this track, I'd make some comparisons, but I'm kind of at a loss right now.... Very original and fun.

Cool &mdash 12/23/04 - 10:48:33 AM
song this is different than your other material sort of
haunting in way. I still think there too much reverb in the
vocals. During the chorus " Welcome to the neighborhood
" the percussion is kind of busy but that just personal
preference. The overall concept is cool however just needs
a few tweaks here and there .

Ha, wouldn't be the first time we were faulted for busy percussion. ;) It's our
dancing genes! I'm glad yolu see the difference in material, this is the first
track where I wrote all the music and Rachel wrote lyrics simultaneously.

Biting irony &mdash 12/28/04 - 12:35:13 PM
The vocal harmonies, as set against the busy
instrumentation, are somewhat dark and dissonant,
arguably by design. A little hard to understand some of
the lyrics -- had to put on my Sennheiser headphones and
ratchet up the treble.

There are some good lyrics in there, drenched with irony
and sarcasm. Please post them. Best line: "Structure grows
out of rubble, a Phoenix reborn out of ash." Powerful
writing. The montone delivery of the lyrics reinforces your
absence of infatuation with your new abode. Good luck
with that. 7787

Biting irony &mdash 12/28/04 - 05:19:57 PM
I"m glad that you take away such a well formed feeling from this track. It's
funyn though, the darkness, and bite of irony is about somethign not spoken
so directly int he lyrics. We really do love Williamsburg, but trying to make
the contrast to where we were, physically and mentally before! I posted the
lyrics for you as well. Thanks!

Biting irony &mdash 12/29/04 - 10:01:37 AM
Thanks for posting the lyrics. You could slide them into the Lyrics slot above,
too, so people can see them straightaway. Obviously, I misread some of the
sentiments you are trying to express. I'm glad you like your new digs. I've
been a lifelong resident of St. Paul's "West Side" -- a mix of lower to middle
to upper crust. My family is more or less still stuck in the middle. I really like
the visual and cultural diversity of this inner city neighborhood which has
square blocks, sidewalks, alleys and full-size attics.

Lyrics &mdash 12/28/04 - 12:58:16 PM
::VERSE 1::
Crossed a bridge to get down.
to a home that's been waiting for me.
Slip on into my best new socks.
My shoes gonna step to the beat.
Rythm comes from the street lamps.
There's art on the warehouse walls.
I am ready to get turned on.
Ready to have me a ball.

::CHORUS::
Welcome to the neighborhood,
Got a new place to live!
Lots of love in this neighborhood,
Got a new place to give.
I'm so happy to be here!
Where tail feathers I can shake.
Whatever I find on these streets,
Is whatever I please to take.

::VERSE 2::
It's so dirty and beautiful,
Where I choose to hang my hat.
I think ugly is lovely,
Can you imagine that?
Structure grows out of rubble,
A Phoenix reborn out of ash!
I came to this wonderland,
When my whole life went up in a flash.

::BRIDGE::
I waited magic.
Waited for light.
Waitin' got bornin',
Cause it wasn't right;
to leave life to chance
in this circumstance.
I had to walk,
to learn how to dance.

::CHORUS::
Welcome to the neighborhood,
Got a new place to live!
Lots of love in this neighborhood,
Got a new place to give.
I'm so happy to be here!
Where tail feathers I can shake.
Whatever I find on these streets,
Is whatever I please to take.

Welcome to the neighborhood,
Got a new place to live!
Lots of love in this neighborhood,
Got a new place to give.
I'm so happy to be here!
Where tail feathers I can shake.
Whatever I find on these streets,
Is whatever I please to take.

Love it &mdash 12/29/04 - 10:10:09 PM
I really really like this track - I think it's really catchy, and
it's got real edge to it. Seeing as I haven't posted a
message on any of your songs before, I'll take this
oppurtunity to tell you that I love your voice. The quality
and sound of your voice is unique, and I think it's great.
And I love the way the melody at the beginning of the
song makes it sound like it's going to be something bad,
and then the chorus totally lifts up and turns into
something really dancy and happy. Love the originality,
and love the overall feel of the song. Thumbs up.
