Lyrics
WILLET BRANCH

Grandma told me of
Days when she was young
It was a story
Begging to be sung
I picked up my guitar
And sorta fooled around
Until what came out
Had a kin folk kinda sound

Grandma said Grandpa
Share cropped Willet Branch
They never made much
but it was their only chance
To get ahead by
Busting sod and backs
Down by the trickle known as
Willet Branch

Grandma hauled water
From the creek to their shack
As Grandpa hoed his rows while
The bank rode his back
(oooo they rode him hard)

Instrumental

Then Daddy told me when they were young
it's where mom and he found romance
So now I feel right at home
Down by Willet Branch

More like...
"Ode to Billy Joe" than "Polk Salad Annie" And that's a good thang, IMHO. Great guitar work and stellar vocal. Love the no drums arrangement and mix. Cool track, Anne!

Love the harmony, harmonics.
The dynamic intro tells us this is going to be special from the get-go. Vocals are great as I've come to expect from you. Nice foreboding minors, great interplay in the backing guitars... it adds up to a great tune. I used to be a big Crosby/Nash guy when they toured without stills & young... similar dynamic at play -- a love of harmony, harmonics. THANKS FOR THE DL.

Strong all around....
Neat dual guitar thing going all through the song. Not just the same, or the same rhythm, but still playing off each other perfectly....

Great lyric, and then a nice spooky melody.... and then Anne, doing the Magic Vocal Thing....

Wonderful
This was beautiful. Love the harmonies on this backwoods ballad. Brings to mind the dream scene in "oh Brother where for art thou".
Something about your vocal stylings on this one reminded me of Don Henley, and the way he sings some of his storytelling songs. (it's a compliment).
You sure got a bag of tricks to bring to whose-ever table you come to. Your ready to play.

Cool echos at the end.

Who is this great musician you get this great music from? It sounds really good. Pro playing indeed:) It fits very good to the singing you do. You are an outstanding good singer, and one thing I find impressive is how creative you are with solving where to put and how to sing background harmonies. Always very supportive to the song and melody.

And again, thanks for putting your magic into my latest song:)
