When I first heard this remix of one of my "tunes" (actually, a loop arrangement which you can hear here), I was not very impressed: in fact, I think I disliked part of it in my original critique to Paul, and may have been rude. Wisely, he said very little in reply, just that it had been "for fun", that it hadn't taken him long, and that he had only "gussied it up a little" by adding a few "doodads" (simple strings, a 2nd flute, a bassoon, a choir!!!). I felt badly because Paul doesn't usually work on other people's tunes and he had (and has) more street cred than me.
That was last year at this time. Over the past months, when I had quiet moment, I'd relisten to Paul's take and eventually, I wrote to him again with a heartfelt apology: "I think I was too close to my original and your variant was too far away for me to appreciate the whole of what you had done. Now I recognize that you created a much more sophisticated production which makes use of enough original elements to be obviously related but is, in fact, a lovely piece of work in itself." He has generously allowed me to post it and share it with all of you.
The title is a French word for hunter(s). Originally, I had visions of horsemen chasing through field and forest but I came across this image from a French book (Editions Cacimbo) about Mongolia showing hunters of a different type which somehow seems to fit Paul's remix. I hope you enjoy hearing it as much as I do.
A Happy, Healthy and Musical New Year to you all.
