Description
got a banjo for xmas, after many years of not having one (used to play as a young lad).
so I thought I'd try out some old timey stuff.
the first song is an attempt at a version as sung by George Landers (on the High Atmosphere album), I didn't attempt to duplicate his banjo part...
the second is a popular old time fiddle tune, I learned it out of a banjo book many years ago and it stuck with me...

Lyrics
'twas in ol' fort worth in eighteen and eighty three
young mexican cowboy comes stepping up to me
saying how are you young fella, how would you like
to spend another season with me in mexico
me having no other employment, to him I did say
that's according to your wages, sir, according to your pay
he says I'll pay you good wages, and often too, you know
to spend another season with me in mexico
he got him up a crew from two to twelve
up the trails we did travel, no trouble did we know
up the trails we did travel, no troubles did we know
til we reached ol' barker's creek in the hills of mexico
when we reached ol' barker's creek, then our troubles just begun
thru the thorns and the thickets, the cattle they did run
thru the thorns and the thickets, the cattle they did run
we got on a steamboat to go home
and the bells they did ring, the whistles they did blow
yes the bells they did ring, the whistles they did blow
god forsake ol' barker's creek in the hills of mexico
young mexican cowboy comes stepping up to me
saying how are you young fella, how would you like

I think you need to do LOTS more banjo man! This is outstanding... I personally loved the banjo... but could have used the vocals a little less "yell" like... But man... great overall song!
