Description
A few years ago I started working on a song for a guy called Alan Gentle, a Brit on the Muses board, but hit one of my blocks and never finished it. Recently we've been talking about working together again and this song is something I picked up on his lyric site http://www.dandelionlyrics.freecp.net/
I've been playing a lot of acoustic recently and came up with some riffs and a melody that needed lyrics and luckily Alan had some I could use. This is a sort of atmospheric piece.
Alan describes the lyrics as experimental. He was exploring rhythm at the time. The hiss at the beginning is deliberate as it's supposed to be a eerie wind blowing across an indeterminate desert through an indeterminate town (probably Mexican) where the final showdown takes place.
K.Yairi acoustic - dropped D
AKG C1000S - vocal and guitar
Samson C01 - vocal and guitar
Tascam US122
Strat and Boss GT8
Various sounds from Garageband
There's a slight fluff at the end but I wasn't going to try and re-record the guitar - 4 minutes of finger picking is enough for me!
The Big Dog in the photo is Django my flat coat retriever when he was a puppy!
Big Dog © Alan Gentle / Dick Langford 2009
Big Dog walks down main street down town
Big Dog's got a girlfriend so proud
She don't take no hound from no pound
She just digs the Big Dog she found
She's singing...
Chorus
Hey now hey now
Hey now hey now
Big Dog's walking
Big Dog's walking
Big Dog likes to play with Stray Cat
Stray Cat likes to take him out back
Girlfriend don't know Big Dog's big rat
Big Dog always covers his tracks
She's singing...
Chorus
Stray Cat don't like standing in line
Stray Cat wants a good time all times
Buys a cheap piece shining so fine
Draws a line and calls out show time
They're singing
She's singing...
Chorus
Hey now hey now
Hey now hey now

been playing a lot of acoustic lately too but not as well as this Dick!
Really great playing and the vocals are superb.
This reminds me of an acoustic song Plant & Page would do.
Really great song, this is just the best!
