How you
get your mind around this complex style of music, let alone your fingers, I have no idea Mark.... but I'm full of admiration ........and not a little envy; wonderful stuff.... and I do like the humour as well, cheers M

It
does take some work to play- violin fingerings are much different than guitar making it a bit tricky to play.

Just this once....
I will skip the obvious Dm jokes....

There is something about Bach that is just deep down satisfying. I think it's something about the way that it shows a genius and a kind of passion while having such a sense of order and structure.

I know it's not true, but sometimes it seems like Bach 'invented' music as we know it in the same way that Shakespeare did with English...

What I like in your playing, Mark, is that same combination of passion and order. It's not adolescent passion, or pop culture passion, but something more real than all that...

Of course, then there's that bit about the puns....

my
new band "Bach Man Ibstrat Overdrive" is looking for a rhythm guitarist. We are doing rock versions of Bach pieces. You must be able to change chords, one per 16th note at mm= 100 while playing organ pedals with your feet. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks for the encouragement!

I wanted to return the favor
with some more composer puns, but I feel like you took the obvious ones! Beautiful rendition; the piece sounds very liquid on the strat...

So delightful.
Mark, this is wonderful. What an exquisite pleasure to hear this music reconstructed in your sure hands on a modern electric guitar. Very very nice. I admire your skill, too. It is awfully nice to hear real music played with such style.

Classic Gold..
Adapted from a piece written for violin ? Crazy concept :) artfully extended into a vibrant and delightful piece of guitar music....I bet Bach wished he'd had a geetrarr...wow what would he have done with that ! Well done on this one, Jarvoid

Mark's the spot
I thought your hand didn't let you play this sort of complex four-handed-picking-style? But no, this is great, I might even be coaxed to say, "Baby's got Bach!" Glad to see you gavotte your all here, without getting mired in family fugues. And yes, you took all the good puns, so I had to resort to the bad ones. And you're right, even Steven Tyler wore those Leder-hosen, didn't he?

Gorgeous playing here, sweet choice of music, and I'm such a sucker for great wordplay, sigh.

ttfn,
Drakonis

Infinite
The violin and cello suites/sonatas/partitas are wonderful music: simple melody lines, often just straight 16s, but you can find so much in them. For guitarists (who have more strings than violin or cello) players there is the intriguing possibility of bringing out the harmony by sustaining certain notes.

In general I like what you've done here. Your approach to the melody is very fluid. The sustained note around 0:15 is brilliant. There are a few places where I think you should have damped a few more strings (1:06). But on the whole this is very cool.

Yes damping is hard on electric I'd be in trouble if I played this thru a Marshall stack!

If you can't Handel the heat, ....
I like this better than the way version covered by the Bach Street Boys, where they could wail away in Dm but never got the counterpoint thing to quite work for them.

Brilliantly played Mark, with such a fine touch. It reminds me of a more fluid Glenn Gould. This is so far above my guitar capabilities I will just say how very much I enjoyed your interpretation and skill and leave detailed commentary to the others.

Thanks for posting, and now, Bach to business....

Doug
