Description
A redo of the very first tune I posted on MacJams, this time from our new CD, Bold Forest

Burke Kelly: lead vocals, fancy drums, slim grasp on reality
Allison K. : backing vocals, different view of reality
Rogue Bakay: backing vocals, grim reality
snowdragon: guitars, bass, drums, percussion, backing vocals, cannons, hell, I am reality

Dorian

Dorian, Dorian etc

Into the crypt, let the starving masses be
Disturb not my sleep lest you be joining me
The people you have with you are untrustworthy at best
Come to me now, yes, come and join my rest

By the grace of the masters you were granted a reprieve
Should you think about it you would surely turn and leave
But all these doors are one-way, you may come but cannot go
The imp that guards the portal when you’re thinking he does know

Now you learn the pain and the authority of doubt
You find yourself a-wondering what this journey was about
You think about your homeland and the lady Arabeth
Now you find the answer and the only way was death

This is indeed...
... a new version. I need to go back and listen to the original. Seems quite different if my memory is working (which is doubtful).

Very dream-like with the backing vocals. And I'm liking your guitar work. You've got a bit of a Grateful Dead feel with the loose/live quality... which I like. I listening at work on little speakers. This sounds like a good set of phones are in order for a better listen.

Btw, post the lyrics... I want read them when I listen again; and maybe the link to the original post way back when...

cheers

your wish . . .
and all that. Yeah, it is quite a bit different. Burke just loved the song when he heard it and wanted to sing it, but he also heard a different version so there ya go.

Loved that you heard Dead in this dude :)

Dorian
Has that modern folk feel you often find done in music from Quebec. Nice guitar work here, and a fresh take on how you use your backing vocals.

Cheers,
Doug

Excellent
that you heard Quebecois influences in this. At the time I wrote it (1978) I was heavily into Garolou, Beau Dommage, Fiori-Seguin, etc, etc, etc

Ahhh, that explains it.
I know the groups, particularly Fiori-Seguin / Harmonium well, yet I was thinking of more modern groups like Les Cowboys Frigants and Mes Aieux. Similar roots to the sound, later in time.

Cool.

Interesting blend of ambience and acoustics
nice picking too. I kind of lose the lead vocals a bit - but that might be part of the charm and otherness.

Wonderful!
In addition to enjoying the spirited guitar, kind of haunting refrain and general musicality of the piece, I'm fascinated by the juxtaposition of the image with those lyrics. They don't really tell a complete story and yet the glimpses are tantalizing. (It's probably from a story I slept through in a Lit class.)
I also love reading the comments/responses such as between you and Doug or you and Drakonis ;-)
Thanks for the remix/repost and the download.

No, I am the real reality
But lets not quibble over minutia and get dow to it. This is an interesting song, even if bit morbid. Don't get me wrong, I like it a lot. Fine redo, great mix, and excellent playing and vox on all counts.

This is
a bit like Terry Pratchett's character, Death
saying 'LET ME READ YOU YOUR FUTURE' I think.

Nice and loosey goosey but still together, I cannot compare it to any band that I know of 'cos it does not sound like any that Iam familiar with...but that's probably becauseI live on a rock in a puddle....but I like it I do....
