Description
My first post from last fall (so long ago...), reimagined with a virtual band and a tiny bit more soul. Drums are my inaugural use of the Native Instruments "Abbey Road" plug-in. Hope you enjoy it!

Great songwriting
Wonderful writings. That and you fine vocals remind me of the best stuff David Wilcox does. I love your original version, so intimate. The addition of your electric guitar makes this version slicker, and the layered vocals adds a very nice texture and interest. The drums, however, never helped and often took away from the song, at least in my ears. I thought some of the hits were slightly rushed, the snare that keeps the beat was mixed too softly, and the general effect was that they were added later and never quite cohere or complement. Consider posting a version that simply drops leaves out all percussion, or perhaps uses a shaker on the chorus and a more folky since of time keeping in latter verses, I think that would make a wonderful update of a fabulously written song.

Oh yeah
I remember the original you did. This one is a bit more upbeat, and I like it. I think this one has come country vibe going on. Be careful, you may end up in boots and spurs! Country can get addictive. Been trying to break the habit myself, lol. Well done, enjoyed this a lot man.

Change
Wow. What a great, clean, full band sound. Everything is sitting just right. Love the piano and the guitar fills--great guitar tone, btw.

And then there's the song which is wonderfully written. The whole thing rolls out and envelops you like a warm smile. Got a little goose bumpy on the last chorus. Four stars.

Great song writing and you've put it together in such a nice package. The vocals are outstanding. Love the percussion accents. Great arrangement all around. Enjoyed it very much!

Whoa
This is a first rate ballad - tender, intimate and soulful. I like the chord progression towards the end of the chorus. Nice vocals and harmonies, endearing lyrics. I agree with Tobin about experimenting with no drums except a shaker in the chorus.

Either way this is a great song and reflects your considerable vocal and writing talents. Pro mix too.

Dloaded for repeat enjoyment. :)

Be well,
Doug

Professional
This is a beautifully written song, masterfully sung, almost perfectly produced. I really like the volume dynamic of the drums, but sometimes the accented snare hits seem rhythmically out of place.

Very nice
I think this is the first song of yours I've heard and I like it. The playing is lovely, your voice is warm and intimate (with some power), and the production is great. Thanks.

pro songwriting
your singing and lyrics are superb, as always. however, I found the drums and synth had a strange phaser-effect, and they seemed to float around my cerebral cortex in a weird distracting way (in headphones.) The guitar, starting on the left, then midway through the song jumping to the right was odd too. These are rather minor mixing distractions, overall the song is gorgeous.

Very Good lyrics.....
This is a great song My Friend, your vocals fit the mood
your trying to portray, cool production, a flaw here and there
but that's not important....
It's the content of what your singing, it's on the $$$$$....

Love the laid back feel of this
Vox sounds excellent, and the drums work well. I'm listening on my MacBook speakers, it the mix sounds crystal clear.

Nice bit of work Michael

I really like...
...the lead guitar on this, and the keyboard sound...

The lyric would totally make it on a Rascal Flatts album, and it would be a hit...

I think you really did a nice job on the vocal, too...

I guess I'm with Tobin on the drums.... They do slip out of time, and some of the accents seem off to me...

A really solid song, though. I'd love to hear this version without drums and see what that's like.... I really do think is a commercial tune, and I mean that in a good way....

You are
definitely one of the best songwriters on this site. We are lucky to have you here. With that said.. the cymbal crashes on this are something not needed, and the snare sounds like someone beating on a cardboard box. I understand this is your first crack at the plug in so all is forgiven, I still love this song though. Thanks Michael.
Peace

Michael
this sounds fantastic - some of the drum timing sounds a little strange (might just be me, I've been on a listening marathon!), but otherwise, I can only say how much I love the vocals, backing instrumentation and production. I'm getting some clipping in my phones, maybe the output signal is a little hot? Very cool post though.
Thanks for playing at the MJRFest!

wow
what a gorgeous song. I love everything about this except for the drums. Sorry - they were more distracting to me than helpful to the song. Maybe if they could be mixed a little more completely into the total texture of the song - to me they seemed to stand completely apart from everything else. There is an incredible warmth in this tune - in the lyrics, in your vocals, in the guitar and organ. The drums are a crisp and cool contrast that just didn't work for me. Otherwise, I'd have to say this is one of my favorite songs of yours.
