Tradin' New Blues for Old MJRF 2010

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
I decided to post this as a MacJams Reunion Festival song to show the difference between where I was 3 years ago on production and where I am now. I posted an earlier version, called "New Blues for Old" of this song without any vocal, but it was suggested I write lyrics for it. So this version is now complete
as I've finally add the vocals to it and extended the song for them. Still has the same feel, but I think this version is much better.

What say you ?

Thanks for listening and I hope you enjoy "Trading New Blues for Old" and the MacJams Reunion Festival

Ed

Talk in with guitars

All right let's tell em about it, yeah, Play that guitar Yeah Baby, Don't hurt me no more

Ain't my heart had enough pain, Ahhh feel it man feel it, Alright now

I'm gonna tell ya about it, Gonna tell ya how it is Baby, so listen up here, and listen good !

Verse 1

Seems like every time my heart starts to heal

You keep common' back around, - yes ya do, - and it's a shame

Just when my heart start to warm, Pretty Baby

You keep common' back and turnin' it cold, - Yes you do - Oh Yeah

I'm so tired of you messin' round Baby - Tradin' New Blues for Old, - Yeah, yes I am

Verse 2

Ain't no use in me complaining' - Bout you breakin' me apart,

ain't no use Baby, ain't gonna make a difference

Comin' back in dem hi heel shoes, - And steppin' on my heart

It's my life of misery

Tradin' New Blues for Old, Yeah Baby

Instrumental verse

Verse 3

Well they tell me nothing' in this life is free

And I believe in what I'm told, Yeah I do, I believe it baby

Specially when it comes to you little darlin', - Cause Baby this it getting kinda old

Don't want you common' back no more, - Tradin' New Blues For Old,

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Oh Yeah

It was suggested,
that I write some lyrics, so I did. I had as much fun redoing this as I had doing it the first time. I like coming back and visiting this girl every chance I get.

I told my ex girlfriend to stop wearing those boots but she never listens to a thing I say. ah well, a smoldering blues number even without the foot wear. Man of man that organ sound just sings. Like the real deal.

Well John,
it is the real deal on that Organ sort of anyway. It's my old Yamaha SY-99 synth doing the organ and me playing the keys. I did supplement the Organ in Logic with one of the Organ sounds in the instrument section though.

Thanks for listening and the great comments on it, I do so much appreciate that. Glad you enjoyed the song my friend.

Guy, my friend,
you might want to keep in mind that she's the reason the song was written. And as for the boots, those are the Hi Heel shoes she wore to step on my heart, (Actually, I should be so lucky) lol

Glad you came over to listen and liked the song Guy, thanks for that. And thanks for the kind words about the (girl) song.

Welcome to MJ Billy
I went and listened to your 1st song, and was mightily impressed. As you've no doubt figured out by now, you should never have stopped playing. Same goes for me too, I quit playing for about 20 years. And those would have been the most fruitful years to boot.

So you and I are kind of in the same boat, as are many others here. A lot of us put the music on hold because "Life" got in the way. But it's funny about that, you can leave the music, but the music never leaves you. That's the reason this place is filled with wonderfully talented musicians, like yourself, and a lot of others.

Anyway, I started out to say thank you for listening to "Tradin' New Blues for Old", so thanks for listening and for the kind words you left for me, I do appreciate that. I'm glad you enjoyed the song.

Be well and be cool Billy,

Ed

Billy my friend
you might want to drop down and read my answer to Bob6stringer's comment. That tells the story of the girl in the picture, and her influence on me and the song.

Anyway, while we have time, we make music. It's a simple concept that only a musician can understand in it's simplicity.

Be well and be cool Billy,

Ed

I love a good slow blues like this, and once again you've shown your mastery of this genre. Great tone and phrasing on the guitars, and the organ parts were well done.
Cool lyrics, and your vocs have just the right amount of world-weariness to them.

on doing vocals for this, but why waste a really good title like that on a strictly instrumental song, like the first version was.

Hey there Bro
Glad you came by to check this one out. After posting the straight instrumental it was suggested I add some vocals to it.

It took almost 2-1/2 month after looking at the picture before I could do anything but grunt, but I finally managed to get the lyrics written and sung. Hence the stress in my voice. lol

Anyway, I'm glad you liked where she took me in the song, even though that does seem to be a little on the masochistic side, if you ask me. But we always have to make these little sacrifices for our music, don't ya know ?

Seeya Bro

Happy to know you liked where this one ended up. Took about two months for me to stop looking at her picture long enough to write the lyrics and finally sing them, but it was worth it.

Thanks for the listen Pat and the kind words. Here tell you're gonna be in Dallas on the 27th. I hope to be able to make it, but it's not looking to good as of right now. Speechless...
Amazing song, Ed. You been writin' this stuff all along? Well, it's about as professional-sounding as I have heard hear or anywhere else: that bass is amazing, as is the lead and back-up guitars. ... And your vocal is right on the money in every single measure. You've placed the bar very high with this song. Though I am a little late getting to it, I am glad I found it here. Just wonderful.

That's some very high praise my friend, and I certainly appreciate it. I'm very happy you enjoyed this one.

After I posted the Instrumental version, someone suggested I needed to write the lyrics for it. Took about 2 months before I got back to it, but with a title as good as that, it seemed a shame not to make a proper songs out of it.

Thanks again for listening Paul, and the kind words on it.

Ed, your talents are definitely continuing to grow
This is a solid blues number with an entrancing effect to draw me in from the first downbeat. Your guitar work is great as usual, and I particularly like your bass in this one - it seems just perfect for this song. I also hear a hint of the tone of James Taylor in your vocal from time to time - which is meant as a compliment. The balance and clarity of the mix is great with each instrument clearly audible and alive in its own space. Most professional.

Fine number my friend.

Thanks for yet another dload!
