Description

I decided to post this as a MacJams Reunion Festival song to show the difference between where I was 3 years ago on production and where I am now. I posted an earlier version, called "New Blues for Old" of this song without any vocal, but it was suggested I write lyrics for it. So this version is now complete
as I've finally add the vocals to it and extended the song for them. Still has the same feel, but I think this version is much better.

Well John,
it is the real deal on that Organ sort of anyway. It's my old Yamaha SY-99 synth doing the organ and me playing the keys. I did supplement the Organ in Logic with one of the Organ sounds in the instrument section though.

you might want to keep in mind that she's the reason the song was written. And as for the boots, those are the Hi Heel shoes she wore to step on my heart, (Actually, I should be so lucky) lol

Welcome to MJ Billy
I went and listened to your 1st song, and was mightily impressed. As you've no doubt figured out by now, you should never have stopped playing. Same goes for me too, I quit playing for about 20 years. And those would have been the most fruitful years to boot.

So you and I are kind of in the same boat, as are many others here. A lot of us put the music on hold because "Life" got in the way. But it's funny about that, you can leave the music, but the music never leaves you. That's the reason this place is filled with wonderfully talented musicians, like yourself, and a lot of others.

Anyway, I started out to say thank you for listening to "Tradin' New Blues for Old", so thanks for listening and for the kind words you left for me, I do appreciate that. I'm glad you enjoyed the song.

Glad you came by to check this one out. After posting the straight instrumental it was suggested I add some vocals to it.

It took almost 2-1/2 month after looking at the picture before I could do anything but grunt, but I finally managed to get the lyrics written and sung. Hence the stress in my voice. lol

Anyway, I'm glad you liked where she took me in the song, even though that does seem to be a little on the masochistic side, if you ask me. But we always have to make these little sacrifices for our music, don't ya know ?

Happy to know you liked where this one ended up. Took about two months for me to stop looking at her picture long enough to write the lyrics and finally sing them, but it was worth it.

Thanks for the listen Pat and the kind words. Here tell you're gonna be in Dallas on the 27th. I hope to be able to make it, but it's not looking to good as of right now. But if I make it, it'll be great finally getting to meet all my south of the border friends down there. (the Oklahoma border that is)

Amazing song, Ed. You been writin' this stuff all along? Well, it's about as professional-sounding as I have heard hear or anywhere else: that bass is amazing, as is the lead and back-up guitars. ... After I posted the Instrumental version, someone suggested I needed to write the lyrics for it. Took about 2 months before I got back to it, but with a title as good as that, it seemed a shame not to make a proper songs out of it.

Ed, your talents are definitely continuing to grow
This is a solid blues number with an entrancing effect to draw me in from the first downbeat. Your guitar work is great as usual, and I particularly like your bass in this one - it seems just perfect for this song. I also hear a hint of the tone of James Taylor in your vocal from time to time - which is meant as a compliment. The balance and clarity of the mix is great with each instrument clearly audible and alive in its own space. Most professional.
