Lyrics
Daddy

Daddy, dear daddy, I know you don't understand
When you look around you it's not like you planned
All your children grew into women and men
While you to and froed with the city

Your daughters had many a fast restless day
The harder you tried to hold 'em, the harder they played
Just like their daddy in so many ways
Just like their mama, so dreaming, so pretty

There's no way to turn back; oh, we've all learned that
The train's still rockin' on its distant track
Never again rolling you home

My brothers and I were just born to roam
Each before twenty all scattered from home
Our mother who loved you was left all alone
To drink while you sinned in the city

Your rules and your rangin' were all made of glass
When you couldn't stop us, you just took a pass
We knew you'd grow tired and we could outlast
And it mingled our love with pity

There's no way to turn back; oh, we've all learned that
The train's still rockin' on its distant track
Never again rolling you home

The train knew more of you than we ever could
And it wasn't the only one

As I grow older, Daddy I do understand
How the role of a father takes its toll on a man
That old hourglass ran out all of its sand
While you to and froed with the city

There's no way to turn back; oh, we've all learned that
The train's still rockin' on its distant track
Never again rolling you home
