This started life on the 22nd September 2009 when Dick Langford (DWL) sent me an email saying that he was thinking about trying to produce a cd of 25 songs, all of them on the theme of dispossession. He was thinking of asking me and another 23 to contribute a song to it.
I found this very interesting as well as flattering.
I sat straight down at the piano and had a flash of inspiration that eventually led to this. I sent a snippet to Dick because it was such a simple melody that I thought it must already be something else. He replied saying it 'just sounded like Len Gold' to him. That was very reassuring.
Unfortunately for various reasons Dick never took his initial idea any further. This left me with my song idea. I carried on with playing around with it and couldn't decide whether to just leave it as piano and vocal or try to take it further.
Then I had my second flash of inspiration, when I decided to ask (with some nervousness) Christopher cchaplin if he fancied a collaboration. I am a massive fan of Christopher.
I felt very honoured when he said yes. I just sent him the piano and vocal, the rest is pure cchaplin genius.
I have no idea what genre this is - maybe we invented a new one?

When I first listened to his vocals with the piano accompaniment, it instantly conjured up clear ideas about the orchestration… It’s so nice when that happens. I had to constantly hold myself back from rushing everything through from sheer excitement. It was a real treat working on this."
