Description

This one is a collab with the extremely talented SCOFUGATE on drums!

The words are all extracted from the last words of American gangster Dutch Schultz (famously made into a play by William S Burroughs). You can read the entire transcript of his delirium-induced final monologue at http://www.feastofhateandfear.com/archives/dutch.html

Anyway, I was pretty thrilled with the drumming and I hope you like it too.

	we aim to rock the original riff to this song was disturbingly similar to the ghastly "Spirit in the Sky." (OK I have to admit I kind of like that song) When I realized that, I knew the riffs must be changed! the verse riff I now realize is somewhat similar to Kinks "Last of the steam powered trains". whoa, yeah, alright
the drumming takes your usually great tunes up a notch dude. the chorus just KILLS. Love the "whoo", "yeah", "alright"s. And that solo - jeesh - dickey betts all the way. nothing better than listening to a tune that's so good you think to yourself "man i have to get busy!" thanks for keeping the bar high around here.

BTW, cool concept too.

Many thanks for the kind comments. It was so cool to have a real drummer play on it... especially one that played (and recorded) the drums so well.
Funny you should mention dickey betts, I was actually thinking of Duane Allman when I did the slide... I think he played slide in standard tuning, which I attempted to do here, not all that skillfully but glad you liked it!

you have a wicked sense of riffage..ala Rick derringer, Lenny Kravitz..and I love it! the guitars just hum. Very cool songcraft. Scofugate keeps it tight and interesting with some very tasty breaks and fills along the way. Props to you both

interested how you did this? laid in a click track somewhere for the drums. Its sounds very organic. Like a band thats played together for many years.

After so many kind words from you, I thought it about time I drag my lazy butt over and see whatcha got, and you know, you and Scofugate really knocked this out of the park! I think it's admirable that you could take time to listen to "Mr. Old School" here when you have a singing style that's far different, but wow, I wouldn't mind being able to do what you did here on your energetic and feisty vocal! I actually love jazz/swing/tin pan alley etc., used to play alto sax in a big band in my university days. however I would be listening to husker du on the way to the gig. not well schooled enough to make my own jazz tunes as yet... maybe someday!
