Description
not really a blues I don't think but it's close, maybe boogie. Just me and the piano and bass.

Hi Dick
Thank you for listening, I think there was one little hic-up right at the end, probably I wasn't too sure how I was going to finish it- ha.
John.

Absolute magic.
I was getting a picture of cowboys lined up just before a bar fight when I looked at the title. Maybe that's why cow cow?
Impossible to stop my side to side head wobble - as Dick said - wonderful performance.
Cheers
Len

Hello Len
and thanks, -of course it's not one of my own songs and I know we shouldn't really do covers! but this has got to be in the public domain I'm sure. It gives you some idea of the many kinds of music that have influenced me over the years. I remember loving it as a kid and yearning to be able to play it.

John.

Cow
Love this. Reminds me of my favorite Black string band tune, "Jackson Stomp" by The Mississippi Mud Steppers. Great singing and playing.

Thank you John
I know all the modern stuff! I think this has been used as a basis for many developements. I've even heard it on a tv commercial within the last few weeks. This is very much the Speckled Red version.

Love it!
This was delightful--what a discovery I've made here! Excellently playful and creative playing on the piano and the kind of happy sounds you don't (alas) hear to often these days. There's a myriad of piano styles as you know, but I'd classify this perhaps as a "boogie rag". Your spirited vocal adds just the right touch. THANK YOU for sharing this with us and kudos for a great job! Michael

Thanks Michael
You are right it is a mixture, Cow Cow Davenport who wrote this and did the original was a sort of halfway house between stride and boogie, he would also stomp out a walking bass in eights playing the octave with the fifth included [like a chord] on each stab. Not as difficult as it sounds as long as you keep your hand frozen at this guage. Of all those players I think Cow Cow was the most consistently entertaining one of his time. The key is F and this was a bit high for my voice so I was lucky the vocals came out as well as they did. I'm glad you liked it.

JJ.

mess around
great old song and fine performance. dr. john also does a version and this morphed into the ray charles hit. is that piano tone clean or are you using something in the recording? either way, nice
woofer3 said 1180 days ago (February 27th, 2010)
Thank you MrLifto
This was done on the spur of the moment with no attention to detail whatsoever. The piano is a Korg SP200 and as far as I can remember there was nothing much done to it. I can hear some sort of delay on the voice as well, but no compression I don't think. That's about it. Glad you like it and thanks for listening.

Ohhhh, yeeaaahhhhhh!
Gotta love a boogie. Nicely done John: there's something to be said for the simplicity of piano/bass/voice (the piece I'm working on now has about 12 tracks ;-) Thanks.

Thank you Richard
I sometimes get fed up with trying to balance multiple tracks, it's the side of the process I'm least interested in - in fact I'm not interested in it at all if the truth be known. That's when I usually do stuff like this.
