The Muffin Man Meets Phil Lynott

Description
Okay, so by now many of you know by day I'm a 1st grade teacher who uses music to enhance my reading lessons. I also integrate music because it's fun for both me and the kids. I'm also a big fan of the TV series Z Rock. I few months back I got to meet them when they played a concert after a Lightning game here in Tampa. While chatting with Joey (the drummer) he told me the show was based in truth. They really were a rock band playing children's parties to pay the bills. So anyway this tune (like my Old MacDonald arrangement) was recorded last summer with that type of mindset, rockers playing children's s songs.

I had also recently downloaded Thin Lizzy's live and Dangerous. As a kid I loved their twin Les Paul attack and twin leads. I decided to do kind of a Thin Lizzy shuffle. Then I decided screw it! Just out and out lift the signature riffs from their signature song. My 1st graders play air guitar. I giggle. They don't get the joke. I hope you do.

Thanks Man
It was just for fun. Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the kind words regarding the production and guitar work. As silly as these songs may be, I find them to provide great opportunity to learn recording skills.

Thanks So Much
To have a serious composer like yourself praise my work is very kind. Thank you especially for commenting on the production, because that's the point of these children's songs I do. It's almost like I assign myself college projects. Assignment: Record The Muffin Man in a Thin Lizzy feel with good production quality. I think I'd get a B! Thanks again.

So Funny!
Now that's what I was looking for! I emailed it to an old rocker friend of mine who said he almost pissed himself laughing at the end! I had to do several takes of the outro vocal because I couldn't stop myself from laughing. Be sure to play "The Boys Are Back in Town" for your grandson so he can share in the joke too. And thanks for listening!

No, I don't know the muffin man...
...and if i did, I wouldn't admit it! There was always something shady about the muffin man to my 6-year old brain, but you've stripped him of that disposition and made him one helluva a nice guy. This was wonderful. I like your arrangements too...they are crystal clear, like being able to see a penny at the bottom of the well--kind of hard to articulate I'm afraid, but I hope you know what I mean. Keep them coming! Take care now, Michael

Shady Characters
Children's songs are full of shady characters who by today's standards could find themselves on a sex offenders list. Wee Willie Winkie is one such individual of concern. I like the "see the penny at the bottom of a well" comment. That's a very (excuse the pun) clear analogy. Thanks for the listen.

Hey Andrew
Love this man! The Thin Lizzy intro had me going for awhile. MJ is nutz about covers... But I think this slides by nicely... Frankly I think Thin Lizzy would absolute love this if they ever heard it!

Your guitar work is outstanding... someday I wanna play guitar as good as you...

Sliding By
I was reluctant to post this one because of the cover element. But since I just lifted some riffs as a gag I thought it would slide by. The kids enjoy it. They don't get the joke. But that dosen't make it any less funny to me. Thanks again.

What a riff-off!
That was excellent, beautifully integrated "instantly-identifiable" bits mixed in with the Muffin Man... but even that you give your own twist to... you are an arranger-extraordinaire, this really shows off some brilliant talent in writing and playing. Loved it! Mix sounds ever-so-slightly "thin", not sure what it is, maybe each instrument needs a little EQ-trimming to get it to fill the mix out a bit, not sure... but it is pretty minor, overall a very good listen!
ttfn,
Drakonis

Thin Mix
This was recorded when I was still a relative GarageBand noob. I feared turning off "normalize when mixing to MP3. Since then I grew a pair and have turned off the normalize function, trusting my ears and the master track effects (EQ & Comp) to lead me to better and fuller mixes. This will get remixed before school in the fall, but will not get reposted. Thanks!

Schoolhouse Rock!
I do dig this, as I told ya in chat. Nothing to say beyond my wanting to maybe cranking the bass a little and dance a little Schoolhouse Rock with it, and my daughter. Cool!

I love writing and performing children's songs (I come at them as a singer, not a musician) so I adore it when I come across a good one. This is such a good one! I can see why the kids love it!

Muffin man
Just spotted this on your list of other songs while listening to "Snowball's chance in hell". Well, what can I tell you? It put a huge smile on my face and in spite of the tongue in cheek tune, there's some great style to this and you get that Lizzy sound spot on. Awesome stuff!
