Description

Electric remake of one of my earlier tunes, "Truth". I'm probably not through with it. I typed every bit of percussion in with my computer keyboard (not looped)! I hope it sounds good to you. Let me know, I can tweak it. The bass is mainly drones I set up by playing my guitar and driving it down an octave in garageband.

	art The bass from the lowered guitar sounds very cool. I feel a sense of the chaos coming to order that you can see in a flock of geese scared into flight from a sudden blast, flying in opposite directions, for in the next moment forming a perfect V formation. 	Truly 'Art Rock' as it has that very arty, well thought out feel about it even though it comes across as 'loose'. The guitar as a bass is really nice! I also like the guitar but the drums just sound too sloppy. Being a drummer first and foremost I'm pretty anal about drums so don't really pay any attention to me. I do like the looseness of it all but there are a few cymbal hits that aren't timed quite right. I really like it when the vocals come in. The drums are distracting though. Sounds like a drunk drummer playing. Even if you typed all the drums in you should still be able to move them a tad. I love the tune, just tighten up those drums a bit!

	Hehe! That's a good one! Jackson Pollock drumming it is! Software drums are extremely tricky to get the hang of. It's so much easier to record a live drummer. I'm bummed out because I'm trying to sell my house and my drum set is in the closet to make the house look less cluttered! Check out my latest song called Wolves

	The kind of sound I like very nice space and drone - I'd add some heavy bottom bass by playing a deep bass on the keyboard if need be. The orchestral bass is pretty cool with some tweaks. The overall feel of the tune is really cool though. Check out my latest song called ditto

OK so now I'm curious about the drums. What kit is it and is it a plugin (Ultrabeat) or a drum machine? They sound pretty real especially the cymbal crashes. The reason I don't try to type my drums is probably the same reason you don't usually; I am not a drummer and the beats I make are not what a drummer would do. That's the way the beat sounds to me, but not being a drummer I can't say what it should be. Maybe just half the ride beat, it might be too much for the way this song moves. I think you are brave to try and that's how one learns. Maybe I'll try one too now that you broke the ice. I need better kits though since the ones in Logic are almost all Hip Hop and techno. I can hear some Robert Plant like stuff going on in this song and a little "Dear Mister Fantasy" by Traffic. Synth, guitars and vocals all good.

	Stephen! It's just the standard "Rock Kit" that comes with Garageband. I still need a bit of practice. But if I can get used to it, it can open doors when it comes to dynamic tempo changes and the like! Thanks for the comparisons. Both are agreeable, by me! Thanks for the listen! Like Jesus and Mary Chain meets psychedelia. I really like it. The drums do sound a bit sloppy, but that kind of fits ok on this tune. I have the M audio Trigger Finger, and I find that a great way to play with drums - the pads are easier to strike with different velocities than a keyboard. I'm sure you could get one for next to nothing on ebay!! Good work.

	Thanks Man Thanks for the comment. I'll search around, next time I have the resources. I love the idea of developing that whole "one man band" concept. Like Thoddi said in a forum post, recently, sometimes one has to work on the fly, not having the luxury of waiting for a drummer. Check out my latest song called Alone (reboot)

Yes! I sometimes think out of the box, with Garageband. This means running different sounds with whatever effects. So this was done by running my guitar through the "Vocal Transformer" option and switched to the "Male to Female" preset.
