Great tribute!
Fess was a bit before my time, but know what you mean about the nostalgia. I love how you wove in the musical themes that are connected with his work.

Outstanding salute
I MUST have seen that show when I was very young, because I somehow remember it--especially the familiar theme song, the familiar refrain of which you opened this excellent and thoughtful performance with. I'm sure to a generation of "baby boomers" Mr. Parker was the hero of the day and we sure could use more of them right now. Thanks again and keep up the marvelous work.

Sigh!
Bill Thanks for all us "Kids" that grew up with these guys as our heros. In those magical days, I used to look up at the sky and see a jet fighter and think "Someday, I am gonna fly one of those". It seemed it was our destiny to grow up and be a hero, just like the ones we saw on TV. I wonder sometimes if our destiny is not still waiting for us to return to the forge.
Farewell Friend!

King of the wild frontier
This is sad news about the passing of Fess Parker. He was my hero, too. Thanks for your tribute song, Bill.

"Actor Fess Parker, famous for playing American pioneer Davy Crockett in Walt Disney's classic 1950s TV series, dies at age 85. He was a resident of Santa Barbara, CA."

He cast a big shadow
He was a big man... huge, relative to most actors (he was 6' 6"), and, like the characters he played (Davey Crockett, Daniel Boone), he was a hero to at least a couple of generations of kids. I read in the Wikipedia article on him that he got the Davey Crockett role after singing a song and playing guitar for Walt Disney. He had a nice voice; you can get some of his music on iTunes.

Speaking of music, Bill this is great stuff, and as always, I am impressed by the soulful approach you bring to all your performances. I really enjoyed this.

Goodbye Davy
Bill as you know I am a big fan of your music and we are contemporaries and share a lot of the same background and memories. I can relate to what you had to say about Fess. There was nothing more exciting for a young kid to do than to set down and watch Disneyland on tv especially if Fess was doing one of his Davy Crockett roles. I'm not ashamed to say I had a coonskin hat. I heard about this when a friend of mine dropped by and told me. He also had a copy of some of the original shows and we watched them again. They had lost some of the magic of course but it was like sitting down with old friends. I had forgotten that Buddy Epson (Jed Clampet/Barnaby Jones) played his sidekick Georgie. God bless you Fess and God Bless you Bill for this great tune.

Thanks
Tom, I have said it over and over I guess, but things like this seem to take something out of my creative soul. I think it is inspiration of goodness we as children receive when we view these larger than life TV heroes! Especially through the professionalism of the Disney productions crew etc. Really an important page passing in the history of many a baby boomer I would think ! Really a goodness thing as a child ! Such goodness in entertainment. At least to so many that were raised in the Walt Disney atmosphere. I guess of course it wouldn't be in every single household but it sure was in mine as a kid ! Thanks again Tom for your wonderful comments ! Thanks for your new music post as well !

: )
My favorite memory of this series is Daniel trying to smile down a bear but ended up doing him in the "old fashioned way... wrestling". What little boy back then didn't want to be Daniel or Davy? I hope his family get's to hear this moving tribute. As always...very well done Tiler!
