Description
When I first met PaulaMunk (Charlene) in late January, she asked if I'd be willing to provide an accompaniment to her song "Please Marry Me". She envisoned something "Celtic"-sounding.

I thought PaulaMunk's high-pitched chipmunk voice was great, so I agreed to do the project.

I downloaded her vocal mp3 and set up a GarageBand document, adding software bagpipes (from the World Music JamPack), a real sopranino recorder track to approximate an Irish tin whistle, and a real folk lever harp track (my smallest harp, a 26-string instrument which I named "Erin").

PaulaMunk has included the following background and description:

"Inspiration:
Some people can lie to you for decades, either outright or by omission. Marriages are nothing without mutual love and respect. An honest word can explain why there is no happiness, and hearing that word after 38 years is better than never hearing it at all.  Being young and stupid can make you waste your love on someone who doesn't deserve a second of your time, so... be careful. Okay?"

I had a lot of fun on this collab and hope to do more with the famous PaulaMunk!

Lyrics
A man I knew once said to me
My lady love would you be
When I come in on bended knee
And ask you dear, to please marry me

Oh yes, said I, this can I do
I've waited my whole life for you
I hope that happy we will be
Never tiring of our company

But sure, if the plain truth be told
Some men go nuts when they grow old
They tell their love one awful day
They want to go on their merry way

So goodbye and good luck to you
The one I know who was never true
You have lost more than I can say
Someday, there will be hell to pay

So sweet young girls, please listen well
To this sad story that I tell
When he comes in on bended knee
And asks you dear to please marry thee

So simple, so perfect...
What a perfectly charming combination of instruments, producing this full, warm and enjoyable soundbed for the chipmunk voice to...hmm..shine? Erin does a wonderful job, so does Charlene of course!! Love the recorder solo. I was almost surprised at how much I liked this, given the slightly peculiar premise for a collaboration:)

What a heart-warming, bittersweet and humorous post.

Nuts to you!
I happen to know the dear PaulaMunk well enough to know this comes from her heart... and is her semi-humorous way of telling a chilling tale. Grand singing there, dear Chickmunk.

And Cameron, you really set this beautifully, perfect choice of instruments to surround her in her element. The only part that was slightly less than perfect was the bagpipe track, but bagpipes are even harder to play-via-samples than brass sections, so I shall cut you some slack :-) The writing of the musical accompaniment is stellar, the whistle is delightful, and the harp is perfect... I can envision PaulaMunk now, with her big brown eyes, fluffing up her tail and trying to look stern and serious, but just being darned cute instead.

Lovely collab you two!

Drakonis

They like it. The instruments are so pretty. Might as well laugh about how crazy life can get. Your playing is exquisite. I love the pipes.
I didn't use any metronome or anything. You were brave to work with my inanity. And You will always have a warm place in my heart. Thank you. :)

wow Cameron
those bagpipes sound great and I love the "tin whistle" and Erin. All together makes a lovely, soft little bed of leaves for the chickmunk to lie in. Lovely vocals, Ms. Munk. This is wonderful!
