RG Paddler:
Well its been a real pleasure working with Len Gold on this song.
I recorded and sent him some simple guitar chords with one verse of lyrics and
he sent it back with some great drums, bass (played in true Len Gold style) and an inspiring extra verse/chorus sung by his niece Aisulu.I finished the last verse then added some accordian, flute, balalaika and glockenspiel.
The lyrics came about because I've always had trouble sleeping, since not doing a regular 9-5 job anymore.
When Aisulu added the second verse,it reminded me of a Brazilian girl I knew called Maria who used to work in a factory near Newhaven,Sussex uk
and she used to complain about her english sailor of a husband being permanently drunk and violent, while she used to work really hard and do lots of overtime to keep things afloat. She always talked alot about how much she would like to go dancing.
Many thanks to Len Gold
Len Gold:
I was very, very happy when Rich asked me to collaborate on this lovely song and gave me free rein to do what I fancied. It just so happened that my niece Aisulu (Becca Johnson's sister)
was asking if she could have a go at singing something. So I just put two and two together and also added some fun lyrics. Really enjoyed doing this, thanks Rich, great fun.

Lyrics
Sleep
(lyrics by Paddler)
Some people travel the world
Others they love to roam
I never do any of these
I just like sitting at home
You tell me tales of espionage and deceit
I just boiled a kettle and now
I'll get something to eat
You ask me round
I just stay in
If you go out
Drop by my house
There is a chair and a TV
What do you need?
I need some sleep
I wake up your banging the drums
While I paddle our ship through the smoke
But I'd rather sink in my pillow
Jumping each wave as it comes
You spill my whiskey
And then you expect me to pay
Before you dream was there
Something you're longing to say?
(lyrics by Aisulu,Lengold)
Get out of the bed you lazy sod
We need some food babys crying
Earn some money,couch potato
You call me 'nag'? I'lll show you nag!
I gave you the best years of my life
I gave you your children
And how do you repay me?
With emptiness and confusion
Its not enough I get angry
Stop dreaming,start scheming
Get us out of this hole dear
Or I'll just be leaving
(lyrics by Paddler)
Its funny how things go
I didnt think we'd get in so deep
You've numbered days
While i was just counting sheep
You ask me round
I just stay in
If you go out
Drop by my house
There is a chair and a TV
What do you need?
I need some - Sleep! - Sleep!

DWL
Loved the lyrics from everyone concerned.
Great groove and Aisulu shows promise.
Reminds me a little of Madness for some reason.
And that washing machine was an inspired touch (or was it serendipity?)
Cheers
