Description

Last night I was so psyched by what I was able to do with the solo piano version of Karen's song Confluence (that she so generously shared with me) - that I posted this song without checking in with her. I woke up this morning realizing that I might have overstepped MJ etiquette - and took the song down after a few of you were kind enough to comment. Since then I've made sure that Karen is on board with this endeavor and am pleased to be re-posting it - warts and all. You see - I did this quickly and left room for others to collaborate because I think there's something special here that needs to get out fresh and raw. I hope you feel the same.

Mind you, I can't remember...
What I wrote last night just before bed.... I still really like this, and the contrast between the high pitched piano and the crunching guitar.... Like the drums, too...

There's a hint of 'Turn To Stone' in this...

Anyway, it starts from a super cool thing (Karen's composition and playing) and ends up in a very different cool place....

	conflagration I love the treatment you've given the piano here. I also really like the atmospheric sounds going on in the background throughout. This has a pretty cool energy to it Kevin. A very long loop...
I, like others, am interested in seeing where this might go if others add to it. The initial "information" is rich enough to suggest that the number GO somewhere (perhaps) important. I hear this as the opening of a film score and being used as the underlying mantra that rides through the whole film, little melodic additions enhancing specific scenes when/where appropriate. (I do NOT get "conflagration," however...unless there is an underlying storyline that suggests this title.

Confluence is one of the first pieces I came across while making my first steps @ MJ and I have been fond of it. It's so nice to hear your interpretation, it just gives a different dimension, I enjoyed so much listening, it's wonderful.

PS : If you happen to do the same with one of my songs, I would be happy to see they have a better future :-)

understated power
Totally interesting. Confluence is such an achievement, and what you've done with it is unexpected and very successful. The rhythm structure is both calming and disquieting, and the major and minor theme really works. Echo/delay echo bass and ending are excellent additions. I wish you could substitute the slowed down loop with actual drums. Very cool post!

can't BELIEVE i didn't comment on this before now. all the conversations we've had about it kevin, it just escaped me that i hadn't said anything to you about it HERE - SORRY! um ... i have to agree that "conflagration" doesn't really seem like the right title, and perhaps by virtue of how well received it was you might at this point agree :). this has been a journey for me, in a good way, an unexpected stretch for which i am actually very grateful. i can't think of anybody at MJ i'd rather get stretched by than you. anxious to hear what APOD does with this, if you guys decide to play with it. this is an awesome work, and i thank you for having this sort of interest in my music. YOU are one fabulous person Kevin!

I'm hearing an eerie, bluesish overdriven major/minor slide lead melody track over this. Of course I hear guitar; to the man with a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. But that aural imagery suits me fine, as does the present state. Karen's sumpin' else, always got key tricks up her virtual sleeve.
