Hey, Sunflower
Music: Lyndon Heart
Lyrics: Salome Strangeheart

Hey Sunflower -- yeah, I'm talking to you
It's so good to see you up again
Must be spring or near enough to draw you out
Me? You know I can't complain
Sometimes I do anyway
Mostly, though the things I've lost I'm better off without
And I swear it's getting warmer
From the outside in
So won't you lean here on my front porch step?
And tell me where you've been

Tell me who tried to hold you back.
Tell me who tried to keep you down
Tell me about hotel rooms in sleepy little towns
Tell me who tried to break your heart.
Tell me who tried to blow your mind
Tell me how the bright lights almost left you blind
Tell me about the clear skies
Tell me about the haze
Then tell me, tell me, tell me Sunflower
Tell me are you gonna stay?

Hey Sunflower -- yeah I'm lookin' at you
While you're skippin' down that secret mile
The one paved in arabesque that turns so wild
Me? You know I'd tag along
Damn near anywhere you'd want to stray
Mostly, though, I just stand back and watch you strut your style
And I swear it's getting warmer
If you'll just give it time
So won't you slip on up my front porch step?
I'll make it worth the climb

Tell me who tried to hold you back.
Tell me who tried to keep you down
Tell me about hotel rooms in sleepy little towns
Tell me who tried to break your heart.
Tell me who tried to blow your mind
Tell me how the bright lights almost left you blind
Tell me about the black and white
Tell me about the gray
Then tell me, tell me, tell me Sunflower
Tell me are you gonna stay?

Oh I have listened close and I know that you need
To float along the free wind like a dandelion seed
There are those'll try to hold you back
There are those'll try to keep your down
But they don't know you, Sunflower
They don't understand your power
They ain't me, Sunflower. They ain't me

Tell me who tried to hold you back.
Tell me who tried to keep you down
Tell me about hotel rooms in sleepy little towns
Tell me who tried to break your heart.
Tell me who tried to blow your mind
Tell me how the bright lights almost left you blind
Tell me about the blue skies
Tell me about the gray
Then tell me, tell me, tell me Sunflower
Tell me are you gonna stay?
This time are you gonna stay?

Heady joy
Totally enjoyable. I love the way you can capture such joy in the everyday. This is like an anthem to enjoying the freedom of the sunlit moment. Love the head paint, the entire lyric set. Great vocals. Aside from the vocals, the track had a demo feel to it, in my ears. The vocals had a slight roomy sense to it, perhaps caused by the way backing vocals, almost like a chorused effect, and the horns sounded a bit too MIDI. Until about 3:34, when the drums are more clever, the constant groove kind of got too repetitive for me, less human. Nearly every other track you post sounds so studio perfect, I thought I share these reactions, imagining that you want to sell the track as is. If this is a demo, great job. As a written song, this is wonderful.

Full of life and love and joy. Thanks for sharing this.

Hey, Sunflower
Has a Randy Newman feel for me. The lyrics, vocs and melody stand out on this one.
