Description

This is a song about a guy who works the Rodeo circuit, and likes to chase women, go Drinkin' when he's not on the circuit. Originally written in 1991 and titled "Ridin in that Rodeo", I posted an earlier version in August of last year, but took it down to do a remix and make a few changes.

I hope you enjoy "Sometimes I get Drunk".

Speaking of Country tunes, I actually started to do a little work on the Steel part for your tune "Heartbroken" yesterday. It's been a while since I said I'd do it, and I feel a little guilty about it taking so long, but at least I did finally start on it. Anyway, I'll get something to you once I finally feel what I've done works for the song.

Thanks for stopping in to listen Craig, and for the kind words on it. But I do have to confess that some of what you're hearing is done with loops, especially some of the Steel Guitar stuff. I'm nowhere near that good on the Steel yet, and may never be, but I figure the song's whats important.

Glad you enjoyed the song John. I appreciate the listen and the kind words on it. I still have a long way to go before I'll be able to play the Steel Guitar as good as this one sounds in the song, but I keep working on it when I can. The Steel in this is mostly comprised of loop I have to admit. But that said I felt it was a necessary addition to the song to give it the Outlaw Country sound I wanted for the it.

Country is one of those realms that sounds simple and seems to me really difficult to get right, so I'm impressed when someone can do it... And over the years I've been surprised that there isn't more country on MacJams... This has got one solid pocket, Ed... And seamless transitions among the instruments....

Truth time: The Steel Guitar on this is almost completely loops, and what's not are loops that I've sliced and diced into new pieces of music.

You're right about Country sounding simple, and in it's basic form, it is. But this stuff is more complicated and yes, more difficult to get right. I don't always manage to get it right, but with the help of my friends and cohorts here I am getting better at it.

HOW you got those ad-libbed lines at the end to sound like they were recorded in the original session, I'll never know. I mean, what's it been, a year and a half since you put the first version out to dry in the corn crib? Nicely (re)done, you old saddle tramp! (That's a '70s-vintage allusion to Charlie Daniels, a man who helped me crash more than one car.)

the ad lib parts were on the first recording, and were recorded along with the rest of the vox. I did back of the mic some to give the effect that I was yelling down to jailhouse to the jailer.

I was thinking about Charlie Daniels song "Hippy in a redneck bar" here recently and thought what a hoot it would be to do a cover of it. maybe a project for a later time, feel up to helping out on it ? Course I'm really gonna have to find a hell of a fiddle player to pull that one off.
