Description:
A new and improved version of my second GB tune "flute clatter"...this one is structured a lot like my "organ noodle soup". I started with a simple nonsense melody line, laid down with the mouse-over keyboard, and then built the song around that. This version is faster, with better percussion (some software instruments, some manipulated/effected loops), and a lively flute solo (samples from a Bulgarian tune called "Lovchantka Ruchenitsa") which keeps cutting in and eventually lets loose...

good soundtrack material &mdash 01/01/05 - 02:33:47 PM
I love how this progresses. It's like a narrative to a foot
chase through chinatown.

...the ones who can't appreciate improvization? Hopefully
the low marks will be removed. West Side Story meets
Stun Nutz! I like your work here. Reminds me to "let go"
sometimes.

I can't stand those people who give bomb scores and don't even comment as
to why. It's usully done to good inventive tracks too. My guess is that they
think music that isn't to their personal taste can't still be well done and be
worthy of some objective praise.

aw, shucks. &mdash 01/02/05 - 12:27:02 AM
Thanks for sticking up for me guys! Sniff sniff...mean old low scoring
bully! Naw...I know tracks like these polarize people. Hell, the only
person in my immediate family that likes my little sound experiments is
my five-year-old son... I'm used to it!

Hmm...it looks like the low marks WERE removed. How does that
happen?

Dirty! &mdash 01/01/05 - 09:50:15 PM
Don't know why I used "Dirty" as a title. I actually hate the
title thing: I always feel forced to do it. I wish we didn't
have to "title" our comments.

Hey this piece starts out like so many of my fart-around
pieces that I never really get anywhere on. But then you
get somewhere with it. Love the bickering flute motifs.
And the Bulgarian thing...where's you find that? Fun little
piece. Could be longer, and more chaotic. I can take it!

Hell I'm still laughing from Itchy Richie. Too fun.

Actually, you should have heard the original "flute clatter"... it was a
pretty one-dimensional fart-around piece. Ask _nderscore...he
commented on it. Anyway, I'm glad you think this one actually "went
somewhere"! That's what I was hoping for...

Hey, pooey, if you want to hear something more chaotic, check out my
"btmbdmf" tune...it really pushes the boundaries of what's considered
listenable! ha!

Also...if anyone else is interested in hearing "Itchy Richie", send me an
e-mail and I can send it to you...

yeah-so where did that last flute song go anyway? this is nice &
inventive, made me feel like doing a jig (for a few secs at least). great mix of
sounds & production-very minimal, but effective tune. DL'd

great piece &mdash 01/02/05 - 05:40:12 PM
I'm a little slow. How did you sample the Bulgarian flute
tune?

great piece &mdash 01/02/05 - 07:43:36 PM
I got the Bulgarian flute tune off a CD. I imported it into iTunes as an
mp3, opened GarageBand, created a new basic track, and then simply
dragged the mp3 file from iTunes to the new track I created in
GarageBand. GarageBand takes a few seconds to convert the mp3 to an
aif file and then it shows up...looking like one long "loop". Next, I used
the split command to cut out sections that I wanted and deleted the rest.
That's how I got my "samples". I hope that makes sense.

great piece &mdash 01/04/05 - 08:01:30 AM
Thanks for the explanation. Do you know how some people are right-brained,
and others left? Maybe I should try it myself, and then--satori! Maybe...

Has a celtic feel somehow &mdash 01/03/05 - 09:43:58 AM
This is pretty fun to listen to. I could imagine a drunk
Irishman dancing a jig to this tune!

Bizarre &mdash 01/03/05 - 11:55:06 PM
Crazy little Irish flavor in that one spot! For some reason, I
could see this accompanying some kind of crqazy
animation, like those one's that really freak you out.... in a
good way! Inspired.

nothing at all. very cool un-song. thank you for not
putting a dance beat in it. it makes me want to chase
squirrels in the forest. i think i will.

Yummy flutes &mdash 01/13/05 - 05:28:40 AM
Wow, what a fascinating effect all those flutes make.
It's a really original piece and sounds great. The
louder section didn't work so well for me but I love
the frenetic twiddling in the rest of it. Freestyle
melodic chaos!

Twiddling on &mdash 01/25/05 - 08:22:40 AM
Flutes caught in a trap, trying to escape, screaming, oh the humanity/flutanity! and, as we all may someday do, the resignation, giving in, no gnawing off of the mouthpiece to slink away half-a-flute... just resignation, rationalized twiddling as life continues on, us deciding not to notice we're still caught in the trap...
