Lyrics
some people try to say things, that'll make em look big
& some people try to do things, that'll make ya feel small
but they don't know where they're really going
is pretty close to nowhere at all

i wouldn't let it get to you babe
i wouldn't lose any sleep
i wouldn't let it get to you babe
it ain't worth it to
keep
it inside

come on and put yer feet up, you can talk to me
why don't we turn the news off and have a cup o' tea
or you could take a look at this here russian book
it'll take six months to read
even if you got the ace of spades
some joker's always in your face
don't let it get to you

cool
great indie pop tune. matthew sweet, sloan, teenage fanclub. really nice chord changes in there, pretty jealous of those. they work so well in the chorus. this is perfect, and yes: it's all about baby. oh, NIICE solo.

Rockin
guitar tone in this one. Scott always sounds great and this is no exception. Tom Petty meets Bob Dylan vocals; they suit the song very well. No critique comes to mind, enjoyed it guys, good work!

guitar tones (and bass) are all from Guitar Rig... my favourite piece of music software!
it's amazing that I can click a button and get an astoundingly good drum track a few days later LOL.
Scott really should be charging for that....

This was was pulsating like it had a life of it's own and it only gets even better as it goes along Well crafted songwriting, excellent production, great musicianship on display, infectious vocal and a topnotch, radio ready (but only on the good stations) track! Hell of a rocker Alec
Between you and Scott , you got a kick A-- tune here. Love the guitar work you did for this one my friend, it's killer. And as usual, Scott knocks my socks off on the drums.
Great track you guys.

Baby, you da best!
Wow, it's like MArshall Crenshaw and Bob Mould teamed up for some powerpoprock. Man, Relic. Your songwriting is so solid I wanna know where it comes from. Secondarily, your performance and mix are are A-OK. Ditto for Scott's skins, which are do-no-evil spotless as ever.

Sounds like you guys hooked-up after Scott's comment about Superdrag in the comments to your achingly perfect song, "Make You Feel Bad," (a song EVERYONE AT MJ: don't forget to listen to that tune, too, right now!)

thanks!
"Songwriting on Guitar" by Rikki Rooksby is the book I went to to learn a bit about writing a song.
Glad you liked the mix, I shelled out for Ozone and am pretty happy with the initial results.
the Bob Mould influence is definitely there on this one, good ears there!
agree that Scott is a stellar drummer. I'm lucky to have him pounding the skins on here!!

oh yeah, sloan
one of the most underrated bands in history. love those high backup vox in the chorus. REALLY REALLY love the ELO backups in the 2nd verse, and the 38 Special "don't let it, don't let it" backups at the end. cool, baby!

Great guitar chops. Solo is especially good - i like how you chose to keep it melodic and keep the note count down, does the work of both a bridge and a solo. I echo michael2 on the chord choices, would have been easy to power chord the whole thing. Really like the chords in the first part of the chorus.

ELO!
ha ha I haven't been bitten by the ELO bug yet, although I used to enjoy singing "Don't Bring me down, Bruce" That said, my brother played me an LP by "the Move" that sounded really cool.
glad the chords were good, basically my guitar playing in the 28 years before deciding to try writing a song, was just strumming different chord progressions. "why don't you play something," I would often hear LOL.

You guys brought it on this one. Great musical sense.

Saw those have mentioned Petty. Yes, I hear that. Great hook, great changes, great song. Love the background vox too.

Bravo

What a terrific song, and so well-played. The pop hooks are sharp and deep here, in the best power-pop tradition.

This has a great feel to it. It has a modern sound but I wouldnt say its pop. It has more to it than a pop song.

Late to the Party Again
The guitars just make this! This rhythm guitar tone is exactly what's cool about the existence of electric guitars. Whenever I pick up an electric guitar there's a part of me that wants to experience that feeling you get when you strum a chord and "that" sound comes from the amp. It's such an empower feeling. This is great guitar power pop.

guitar
I'm a fan of Native Instruments Guitar Rig software (where all my electric guitar tones come from now).
I used to use the Pod 2.0 but the Guitar rig just seems a bit better to me.
thanks for listening!!

Protocol!
Thanks for the tip on the proper mode of address.

Excellent rocker Alec. And Scott is indeed mighty on those drums. Personally, I would have had him just a tad more forward in the mix.
Apart from that VERY small nit, this tune is killer! Awesome guitar work and great vocals.

Be well bro!

agree the drums could safely be a bit louder. definitely one of the best parts of the song.

Catchy as hell. Guitar is thick like butterscotch
and just as sweet. Great tune, chorus, lead break.
Radio-friendly in the best sense of the words.
