That’s How It Goes
Music & Lyrics by Jack Miller

She says, “Baby let’s go out and take a walk”
I say, “Honey I just want to sit and talk”
That’s how it goes

I say, “Baby let’s go out for a real good time”
She says, “Honey, well, I’m just not feeling fine”
That’s how it goes

Round and round and round it goes
Where it stops, well, no one knows

I get blue, feeling down, and I start to whine
She just smiles saying, “Baby, take your time”
That’s how it goes

She wakes up, hears a noise in the dead of night
I act brave, check it out to ease her fright
That’s how it goes

Round and round and round it goes
How this works, well, no one knows

Chorus
Who wrote the book on all this entails
Sugar and spice, and puppy dog tails
Everything nice

A puzzling thing, this gift from above
A maze-in-art, that’s what it’s made of
This game of the heart… called love

I say “Darling let’s go out and see a show”
She says, “Baby let’s stay home and dance real slow”
That’s how it goes

She says, “Sweetie it’s so nice to be get close again”
I say “Baby let’s be lovers and be friends”
That’s how it goes

Round and round and round it goes
Where it stops, well, no one knows

Great 60's Vibe
The reverb on the vocals is very Pet Sounds-like. Love the slap in that snare drum. Great chorus. At times the lead vocal is very Ray Davies. Come to think of it, there's just a cool Kinks thing to this track.

a kinky night...
Ray Davies.... back in the sixties I am. Not surprising, that was my youth. Thanks for the generous comments alackbass... good to know it brought back some pet sounds for you... ;-)

Nice upbeat folk rocker on the Tao of relationships. Good hook and the lyric develops it well. Nice tone on the Martin and it is right in the pocket. Like the drums DOD is great.

Thanks my friend.

Ferris Wheel
I really like the gently propulsive guitar strumming in this tune. The falsetto part of the vocals have that great rock-angelic sound too--the ascending melody line on the "round and round" part really works. Nice!

hey michael.....
thanks for dropping in and giving this song a listen. I'm glad you mentioned the guitar part. I wondered at first if I wanted to add more to the instrumentation, but decided I iked the guitar as the main driver. The falsetto was not easy. I had to sneak up on singing those parts... ;-) Again, thanks.

60's
I pick up a kind of a British pop from the 60's feeling in this recording Jack. That's a compliment, and isn't something that's easily done. The Beatles, Herman's Hermits, Kinks... I could go on... it's a song that could fit several of the bands from that era. Very cool how you sing the chorus, round and round...
Check out my latest song called The King has left
Dadai.2 said 2702 days ago (May 28th, 2010)
hey... British pop...
I can cop to that rap. Nice compliment Thor. Really, I did have a bit of the sixties Brits in mind on this one. That era, that sound more than any is a touchstone for me. Yes, Dylan and soul are in my background... but I love the melodic song writing and recordings that came out of the Invasion from across the pond back then. So thanks much.

the Kinks have it....
I have to admit, I need to listen to the Kinks all over again. The only songs that I am conjuring up right now are Lola and Conservative Man About Town?.... Any way, nice to know you thought this an improvement over the previous version. Cheers,

Fun tune to listen to. Fits in there with Don McLean and some of the other folk rock that was so popular in the 70's. Your harmony vocals sound very nice. I enjoyed this - thanks!

The lyrics are a gem. Little stories, like snapshots. Almost a condensed manual for life.
The music flows light and easy like a mountain stream. Something I heard in my imagination was a slide guitar in the bridge, between the voice parts (@2:00), and in the verses afterward. Next remix? ;-)
