Description
A cautionary song I wrote a number of years ago, and for some reason was moved to create a reggae-toned arrangement of. Those are actual authentic bear bells in the left channel, in case you were wondering.

Silly song or not, I still really appreciate the comments + critiques, so bring 'em if you've got 'em.

Lyrics
There's a bear in the area, a bear in the area.
I don't mean to scare ya
But I just left the ranger station.
And there's a bear in the area,
The area is beary:
A ranger told me that they're
Rising up from hibernation.

There's no need to fear
She told me what to do
And since I've found you here
I may as well tell you--

If it's a brown bear, stand your ground
If it's a black bear, run around
If it's a white bear, show your teeth
If there's a rock, climb underneath...

The most important thing is to be natural
In their land, obey their laws
Treat them just as well as you would treat yourself
If you were eight feet tall with claws

There's no need to fear
I'll tell you what to do
Just pay attention here
Or it's the last thing you'll do

If it's a brown bear, stand your ground
If it's a black bear, run around
If it's a cinnamon bear, wave bye-bye
If there's a tree close, climb up high

There's a bear in the area, a bear in the area--
Make sure you do the right thing!

You Say Silly! I Say it's Fun!
First of all the production is stellar. Love the bass line. Cool wah-wah rhythm guitar. Really cool chord changes with a lot of interesting turns. I may be teaching this one to my kids next week. How about posting the lyrics?

Very nice Michael, you've got real cool vocals. I love the song too. I'd agree with Andrew, I usually like it better if I can follow the lyrics as the song goes. Maybe it would be indeed nice to post them.

Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Michael, this was sensational! I hope you can hear my enthusiastic applause from here. Every beat of this song is wonderfully done and I can tell you spent much time working on this from inception to mixing--vocal, music, bear bells: as good as it could be! I love how you work with words in the lyric ("the area is beary")--very creative and fun. It's by no means a silly song--these are lessons in life being told here. You are amazing....thanks again!

Funny song
And I've hiked in grizzly country before...
But I'd prefer less bear bells in the song, otherwise it's great.

A good match
I think the reggae beat fits in nicely although it would still be interested to hear the original version. The reggae style somehow has induced something different from you. Last but not least, very good melody. Cheers / Mike

Very clever
I really like the way you use words and get the most unlikely rhymes. "the area is beary A" :-)

Good clear production and a fine performance.

Not sure I'll take you advice,
but I sure do like the way you gave it. Taste backtracks and very clever lyrics, with good vocal, make this an instant hit for me.

Love it Michael, thanks for putting this one up for us, it's great.

Michael
The lyrics alone are worth a fav.

I have a pretty major fear of bears, which is one reason I've avoided ever going walking or camping in Canada or the US. I mean our critters down here are positively cuddly when you consider being disembowled by a bear - well, maybe not the great white sharks or the multitude of deadly snakes. Koalas are how bears are supposed to be - slow, vegetarians blissed out on eucalypt leaves. But I digress.
What's a "bear bell" then?
Terrific production and a great song - I must remember your guidelines (and do a course in distinguishing a brown from a black bear. Didn't mention a grizzly so you wouldn't scare us eh!?

Excellent post.

The most important thing is to be natural!
My fear for bears stops today.

Thank you Michael.

Let me be the first to tell you that I think you are a super funny dude and a very talented story teller.

I remember having trouble telling the difference between a coral snake and a king snake. If you don't mind, would you please do us another public service and write a song that we can sing when confronted by a snake?

Red Yellow Black, better turn back?
Black Yellow Red, gonna be dead?
Black Red Yellow, you're a lucky fellow?

It's so confusing and I'm lucky that I'm here today to ask for your help.

Your music has the potential to save lives. Please. Help.
