Trouble

Description
In continuing my search of old garageband files, I found myself in "Trouble." The bass line was me playing my keyboard (always a dangerous thing for one of my lacking keyboard talents). I decided to re-do the singing on a better mic so that's new. I also tweaked the lyrics a bit.

Now for the fun part. This is a pretty sparse arrangement. I think there's room for piano or sax or trumpet or trombone -- anything that's got some jazz. I can open up a spot for a solo, too. If you're interested, let me know. if not, well, sparse can be fun, too.

Lyrics
Trouble never starts without you
Trouble never stays far away
Trouble never misses
A chance for stolen kisses
Trouble is here to stay
It's here to stay

Trouble never shows without you
Trouble never wanders away
Trouble has no doubt
The welcome mat is out
Cuz trouble is here to stay
It's here to stay; it's here to stay
Trouble's waiting for me

It's wearing a suit
It's wearing a tie
It's singing a sad song
In the key of lies
It's trouble; it's trouble

Trouble never says it's sorry
Trouble never feels regret
Trouble never thinks when
You've had a few drinks then
Trouble is a dangerous bet
Oh, it's trouble and it's here to stay

I said, it's wearing a suit
It's wearing a tie
It's singing a sad song
In the key of lies
It's trouble
Oh, it's trouble and it's here to stay

Trouble never starts without you
Trouble never stays far away
Trouble never misses
A chance for stolen kisses
Trouble is here to stay
It's here to stay

It's here to stay
It never goes away
Tomorrow and today
Trouble is gonna make me pay
It's trouble; it's trouble' it's trouble

Key of Lies
What a great lyric that is? I like the bass line. The sparse arrangement works in that it leaves plenty of room for your fabulous vocal. That vocal would hold up all on its own. Great tune in the tradition of classics like "Fever."

Amazing
how you can have such a FULL sound with only your voice and one or two rhythm section voices behind you. WoW! Yes there is room for someone else, but I agree it stands as is pretty darn well!

trouble with a capital J
trouble is best when it is sparse... and you give sparse a good name here... fun fun music and singing, and as usual, excellent lyrics.
Love listening to you sing (and whisper), thanks Joanna!

Keep...
reclaiming those old files. A bit of a "Fever" feel on this one, which ain't bad. Bass and vox sound so sufficient here, but like you said... I can hear a sax or trumpet plaintively playing your back up blues....

Nice one...
As mentioned earlier, very reminiscent of "Fever"and the arrangement of it made popular by Peggy Lee in her recording (in fact, for a moment there during the intro I though that is what you were going to sing!) Good work here...thanks again.

ooh
sweetness. that string bass pairs perfectly with your voice and the combo of the two round this out nicely. i love your sparse use of the percussion. and really great job on the bass line. beautiful vocals. this doesn't need anything else! but i bet andysax could add some heart melting bits if you really wanted him to. great song joanna.

sparse trouble
I like the spartan textures of this song--it really shows off your voice. My favorite couplet: it's wearing a suit, It's wearing a tie /It's singing a sad song in the key of lies.

My ears can't be really trusted, but I feel like your new mike is giving you some unwanted sibilance at some points--is it a big condenser one? My cheap conderser is very finicky that way, very sensitive to my proximity. (Not that you asked:))

I had been here and left a comment. Good lyrics with great allusions. Peggy Lee would have liked this piece. :)

Hi, I'm Joanna (not Jo, that's someone else). Garageband has allowed me to indulge my love for singing beyond concerts in the shower. My favorite part of songwriting is writing the lyrics. This makes sense, of course, because writing is what I d... [see more]
