Description:
Finally complete with vocals by Dar.

Lyrics:
Night, pavement dull with the roar, I, hear his footsteps no more, Lost, in the city of dreams, Nothing can be what it seems, And all that I care to notice, is an echo of his memory Following me… Soft, in the glow of the street, Moonlight, so haunting and sweet, Drunk with the nectar inside, Drowning my pain and my pride. And all that I care to notice, is an echo of his memory Following me… Now, I just swallow my tears, How, could I waste all these years? Why? In the distance a cry, Just, his unspoken goodbye, And all that I care to notice, is an echo of his memory Following me… [ lyrics by Dar ]

Hardware:
Yamaha "CustomZ" tenor saxophone YTSZ82, RadioShack 33-3004 dynamic microphone with XLR-1/4" line level transformer, iMic USB noicemaker, iMac G4 800Mhz (1GB RAM).

nice 'n jazzy &mdash 01/04/05 - 05:33:36 PM
Really nice piece. I particularly like the sax performance.
It would be better if the quality of the vocal recording was
better. It sounds too tinny and distorted.

Thank you. The distortion of the vocals is intentional - it was put through a
flanger and severely reverberated :{)

Vocals like a muted flugelhorn &mdash 01/05/05 - 11:56:14 AM
Vocals are a great idea. They seem maybe a little too soft
for the overall feel, even tho the idea of the effects is cool.
Like a muted flugelhorn. Nice tenor textures as always.
cool, mesmerizing track.

Thank you :{) You made Dar's day... As for the levels - I was going for more
instrumental feel rather than solo-song performance, I , however, might
reconsider and bump 'em up a bit...

Note to self: saxes are flat &mdash 01/06/05 - 08:10:14 PM
Very nice track, unfortnately marred by some intonation
problems. Either that sax is flat or the flute-y sound is
sharp, but they sometimes hit the same note and, eh, it's
not the same note.

Very cool piece otherwise.

Other Worldly Blues &mdash 01/09/05 - 05:20:12 PM
It's different. I like it. Hard to take the blues and really
bring something new to it. But you did. This song has
the kind of feeling that I don't even care if I understand
the lyrics or not. If ya know what I mean.

my 50 cents..... &mdash 01/10/05 - 09:17:31 PM
Ok, my 2 cents.....really liked this piece, the sax is very there.......as is the chord progression against it IMHO...but I have to agree with the others on the vocals...it sounded like it punched in with a background hiss that was not the cymbal wash of the brushes....so I figure it was the effects......I like the quality of the effects but I want the story too.......maybe an overdub of another vocal track with some old fashioned reverb and a blend of the two so we get the Flugal and the sexy/sultry nuances too?

Yeap. It's a flanger's hiss you hear. I want to let the track to sit for a while, so
I would forget what it sounds like, and then listen to it again, may be play
with the settings some more. I already bumped up the vocals level and
changed the flute to a syn (the file is at my main site:
www.gerasimenko.com), I might as well work on the vocals some more. Good
catch, thanks!
