Gun Shy

Description
This song has been lost in my MIDI files for about 15 years. I found it, brought it into Logic and completely redid it. It consists of all the old MIDI files I built back in 95, plus some rhythm and lead Guitar additions. There is only one loop in this and that is some of the drums used in part of the Bridge section.

Not sure about the Genre. I thought maybe it should go in Down Tempo, but opted for Rock Instrumental instead.

Hope you enjoy the track

Ed

I have no idea
were it fits in the Genre scheme of things, but it's in there somewhere under the heading of music. Now that I listen to it again after posting it, I can hear things I wish I'd done differently, but I guess that's always the way of it.

Thanks for listening and the kind words Andrew, glad you enjoyed the track.

Sounds like blues inflected rock to me, think you got it right. Reminds me of the Atlanta Rhythm Section some. Like the guitar line and tone.

Ed, this is fabulous!
I so happy you found this and released it. My only question is: why do you think it needs to be made "honest" by the addition of some lyrics? I know I'm in the minority regarding vocals but this sounds great just the way it is, IMHO.

Well, the reason is
that I started to write some lyrics for it, and even got a chorus written, but that was the extent of the writing I did. With that title, I felt it should be a song and not just an instrumental. But alas it was not to be, at least for now. I may revisit it in the future and finish what I started on the lyrics, but for now it is what it is, a jam session.

Thanks for the kind words, for listening, and for the encouragement Richard. I really appreciate it, more than you know.

Ed, tell the truth
was the "trips my trigger" reply to dave's comment intentional?
Take that "trips my trigger" and "gun shy" and you got a song right there,
"I'm gun shy but she really trips my trigger"
Genius you are! I'll tell ya what genre this is..... "slorock"!
Classic sloparts post! I love it!

Well then Jim
You write it and sing it, and I'll mix it down for ya. That a hell of a hook line there Jim, and yes I did use it intentionally.

Glad you came over to listen my friend. Wasn't sure when I posted it if it was ready for prime time, and I', still not. But maybe one of these days I'll put together some words for it and repost it.

Thanks for the listen and the good idea Jim. Appreciate the visit, and the kind words.

looks very odd to me. The only way you could fire it would be at yourself. How long did the terrorist take before he discovered that? Bluesy. :)

For the longest time,
I'd take it out and putz with it, accomplish nothing, and put it back in the midi bin where I keep all the old midi files. After many years of not even knowing it was still in there, I finally noticed it and decided to putz with it some more.

Only difference is that this time I have my Mac, and Logic with which to play with it. What a difference that made. So now it is found and up for collab if anyone wants to the lyrics for it.

Thanks for listening Sheila, and the kind words.

Very well done
piece here Ed. This sounds pretty full and well orchestrated to me. Funky, with some blues and even a bit of 70s disco influence. Love pieces that mix genres together like this. Very cool. One of the better instrumentals I have hear on MJ! Well done my friend.

Actually Vic,
if he used that gun, it was suicide, he shot himself. That's my story and I'm s-s-s-sticking with it.

I had to drag it out of the files with it kicking and screaming all the way into Logic. Bit I showed it who's boss, huh ?

Thanks for listening Vic and the funny and kind words. Glad you enjoyed it.

Glad you liked the Gun, R.T.
it's a special issue being sold to terrorists only, and it's very affordable.

Oh yeah, the song. Well I don't know about an album, but I might have something similar in my lost files bin. I've been looking back and finding all kinds of old stuff I started, but never finished. Might just have to resurrect some of the others and see about finishing them off too.

Thanks for the listen R.T. I appreciate it and the kind words you left.

Hello, McFly !
I am coming to Texas. Just thought you should know, Mark. lol

As I told Coop above, it's a special issue for sale cheap to terrorists only. They're practically giving them away, as a matter of fact.

About handing me you ax, I'm bringing several so I appreciate the offer, but I'd rather we just jam together and have a lot of fun. That's gonna be the real thrill for me, meeting all of you face to face and hanging out, playing and all that goes with it.

As for this song, thanks for the kind words. Makes an old mans heart swell up and have a heart attack. ;-)l

Glad you liked it though, it was fun going back in time and dragging this one out, kicking and screaming all the way, to be forced into submission and finished up.

Thanks again my friend.

Only if you try to use it, Terry,
the pistol I mean.

I was playing around with the foot boards in Logic as well as the Amp Sim, and tried a few things I hadn't used before. For instance, the Wah pedal, which I discovered responds to automation. It may not be as good as using a real one, but when you don't have a real one, it can be made to work fairly well.

There's a lot of possibilities available in the pedal boards. stomp boxes, and Amp Simulators in Logic, as I'm sure there are in some other DAW programs. One just needs to be willing to take a look, play with them and see what happens.

Thank for listening Terry and for the kind words about the Gun. One of my favorite pictures of all time is this particular Gun.

Be well and be cool my friend,

Ed

Thanks for listening to my "funky rocky reggae mixed up ska type doohickey sorta thingy", glad you liked it uh huh.

The artwork is a picture of a pistol supplied by the Government and on sale in Afghanistan, an other places where the people who commit "Man made disasters" frequent, and a give away prices, don't ya know. Thought it fit the song pretty well too.

The original midi files were done on my Yamaha SY99, circa 1993. Still have that keyboard and it's as good at making sound, as about anything they have now days. It was Yamaha's top of the line back then, and well worth the price of admission.

But time and technology wait for no man, or woman for that matter. Now things are a lot easier to do in the midi world than in 1993 when this song first saw the light of day. Besides the midi, there are about 6 guitar tracks in there too, so that helped to make it a better song.

Anyway, thanks for listening, twice, and leaving me the kind words on it Dani, I appreciate that.

Ed
